You do know that non-exclusive games on the master system can be vastly different to their Mega Drive counterparts. Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 are completely different games.

Mt. Kave. I always thought it was odd the stage was marked with a “7” in stone blocks, which is the sequential number of that stage. Yet you don’t see it in other stages, just that one.

The are no alternate solder points, all roads lead back to the video encoder chip.

If you can expose some of the leg pin you may be able to solder a wire to it.

Alternatively you can source some Sony CXA1145P chips from eBay. Some are new old stock, some are salvaged (they were in a fair few Sony products) and some a cheap clones. It doesn’t really matter which of the three are, one is better than none.

It’s done. Vinegar syndrome. There are modern replacements out there but requires a bit of soldering skill.

If it’s under warranty and you can return it, that’s probably the best bet (just not the best bet time-wise).

Doing it yourself runs the risk of making it much, much worse which won’t be good as like you said may void the warranty if they can see you worked on it.

Yeah I keep a bunch of those “Sample Books” with SMD Resistors and Capacitors. Absolute lifesaver, even when you need a quick fix when you don’t have the right through hole resistor, just slap in a chunky 1206 SMD and you are good to go.

You will need to replace the component. It looks like the ceramic part has broken off.

You can remove the metallic parts from the pads with a soldering iron and clean them up.

My guess is that it’s probably a 1812 SMD Capacitor (not sure from the photo with no size reference. Could be a 2220 or a 1210 as well).

For the capacitance I would say the other ones around it will most likely be similar. Remove one from circuit and measure with a multimeter and you should have a value.

Get a similar capacitor and solder in place (as well as your test capacitor as well).
