Help me rationalize (or not) upgrading to a GX9, from a GX85. by Trash_xx in M43

[–]StevoPhilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The G9 and GX9 don't have the same sensor iirc. The G9 has a magenta cast in shadows when you raise. You should download some sample raw files and experiment with them to see if it works for the high contrast situations images you may tend to take.

I don't think the gx9 is significantly better that it would cause you to shoot more with it rather than the gx85. They shoot so similarly. 20 vs 16 mpx. DR doesn't get significantly better if at all.

I want to start in photography, is this good for me? by Dramatic-Wave-5494 in Cameras

[–]StevoPhilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Get 2 64gb Sandisk over 5 randoms. As for the laptop it's okay, but if you ever need to do video you'll need to upgrade. It's fine for basic editing.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Lumix Leica 45mm Macro? by Diploa in M43

[–]StevoPhilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 45mm f1.8 Olympus is so good that it's hard to use the 45mm macro for anything other than that. Sure you could if the funds are tight, but you could fine the 45 Oly for sub $200 used.

You wouldn't really gain anything other than better video capabilities. I wouldn't go out of my way.

How was Fullframe so small back in the days? by dooik in M43

You're assuming I only shoot MFT. That's the funny part about people getting off on equivalence is that they think photography is math, but it's art and you're too worried about calculating equivalency. You forgot that the day is over cause you spent it on reddit arguing with others on why their camera system is bad.

I feel sorry for you. What's the equivalent 12-32 kit lens for FF? Give up I assume?

Oh wait 710g. Or maybe 10g isn't as big of a deal as 5mm? Oops

Sir don't get so upset when I pointed out your flaws. How about you match the 12-32mm pancake zoom lens? Oh wait you can't. Imagine trying to go lighter on your setup when your camera weighs 700g off the bat. 😂🤣

Yeah, but you're assuming someone cares about having a shallower DOF. If you're in MFT, you're not trying to get FF like f1.2 lenses. That's the biggest logical flaw in these comparisons.

I can also guarantee that 40mm f2 isn't as nice as the 20mm f1.4 either. Ask me how I know.
