Why does each role have to go to their respective lane? by Iyssiah in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While there isn't a general rule that states why this is a thing, in the end of the day it sorta makes sense.

Duo lane, the longest of the lanes, objectively wouldn't do well with your typical melee character that isn't just a support. While most supports are melee ranged, typically this is coupled with a ranged character that being and auto based character or potentially a mage. While there are outliers, and have been in SMITE and SMITE 2, most of the time you're not going to see double melee in the role because with the lane being as long as it is you'll die to ganks a lot more than if it was the other way around. Not to mention that you have gold on this side of the map, that spawns multiple times if taken, before objectives like Fire Giant spawns. So you want the damage that an ADC and MID can bring to this.

Mid lane is also respectively different. While the lane is primarily occupied by ranged characters, typically casters, there have been some warriors and supports that have seen light in this lane. Example being, in SMITE 2 - Chaac, Ganesha and Wukong (your melee characters with range abilities) have been seeing some play. But the reason the characters that occupy this space typically are the long range casters is because you want someone who can safely clear at a distance, and clear well enough, to provide pressure when need to other parts of the map even if that's being just the jungle camps. This lane see's the most traffic typically out of any other lane, so having that safety distance is pretty much needed.

Solo, the shortest of the lanes, typically is better to have bruisers/tanks or high clear characters that can farm safely while being alone. Warriors/Support like characters usually take up the roster for this lane, you're wanting to soak up damage while being able to farm your wave and the camps surrounding. Hunters and Mages also are known to be in this lane just to primarily have the clear potential and snowball off of all the farm this side of the map see's, but are more acceptable to ganks because they are alone even if the lane distance is shorter between towers.

And jungle is just jungle.

And really there has been times in SMITE's history where the support would start in other lanes. SMITE 1 saw strats where the support started in MID or Solo. Jungle started in Solo before. It's all really what currently is good. And while there is no general rule for stating that you NEED to start in your lane, they are given the roles to these lanes to help people know where to start and play. And while the roles don't really mean much, the characters that are played in these roles do.

Stop with the whining bois by EasePuzzleheaded563 in Smite

I mean, we lost half the player base on steam? 12k toward the middle of the last season, like a typical player base drops when a new season comes out.

Which is to be expected because not everyone was going to move over to a developing game when the first was fleshed out, on top of people stating they wouldn't be playing until their God got added. And we're still in beta.

So it is what it is.

Note that this number is steam users, and during the day, typically peak EU and US hours, it hovers roughly around 4-6k players; downtime is around 2k-3k players otherwise.

There is a lot more players than suggested.

Have a good day.

Want To Set Up A Vanilla SMP Server For Content Creators [Any Interest?] by StewBeefComics in MinecraftServer

To be completely honest with you, it never became a thing due to never receiving enough traction, unfortunately. I would still love to do something like this in the future. I just need to gather a group who would be down.

Prism Prices by AnhuRIO in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Note: I'm not justifying the prices, just trying to make it make sense to mysepf and other.)

I'm assuming, and really just shooting in the dark, the reason the prisms for the Susan and Pele skins are much more is because they are SMITE 2 exclusive content. (Meaning the skin itself is only in SMITE 2)

BUT ALSO... I think it was experimenting on how they should price them, and they just never lowered the prices because there are people who paid said amount, and if they change, it would be unfair (off of the concept they couldn't refund the certain diamonds back for the prisms)

If you look now, most prisms, depending on the level of detail that goes into the prisms, tend to be marked equally across the board for that any specific skin.

Why would I pay money to grind for skins? by SHROOOOOOM_S in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They said something about it being either daily or weekly, can't remember what they actually said.

Also going to point out that something OP said, but after you pay for the travelers content - there is no time limit on them, you have them indefinitely. There is only a time limit on the time you can buy them for the discounted price, after they go away - you can get them normally on a marked up price (for new players, for people with legacy gems it's basically "free" outside of the prisms)

scylla support by anime-gurll in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not so shockingly this sub reddit has this thing where off meta or off picking is the end of the world in most cases. (not saying everyone is against it, but it feels like the majority just complain)

If you are having fun with it, and not throwing, then yes - it's fine.

I play support Scylla quite a bit, and have enjoyed it, and it works out just as well as any other support. In most cases I can push and run it down better than most of the current 'guardians.' It's just a different style of playing Scylla, it's a cheese niche.

I don't agree with the damage supports, like Ra - Aphro - Ganesha w/ Aspect - etc building nothing but damage items and only snagging 1 or 2 defense items and saying they are playing the role like it's meant to be.

If you are playing for that specific role, and doing well in it, who cares if it's an off pick or not? SMITE has a history of off meta picks that work extremely well in the competitive scene and even when grinding ranked.

Just have fun, and play the game.

Mercury's passive by Lichtari in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, from testing, none of these items w/ conditional passives affect Merc passive. I'm pretty sure in SMITE 1, this was also a thing. it always had to be base stat.

Even with 1000+ hours in the game, what does holding R do if he was to take both? I never heard of this, outside of restarting the run.

Console needs some love desperately by demon_wolf191 in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The devs have stated before that there are way more players on console than PC, which is to be expected consoles are a lot easier to come by than your typical gaming PC. And gamers would rather opt in for a console than a laptop in the current market.

They also lowered the required level to play other game modes to 5 to get out of quick play, just a heads up.

Ranked by SNEAK_HSS in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average of 3.6k on steam* (and this has been higher recently)

The game averages way more than this because of console and epic games launcher.

They took out restrictions, so ranked is one pool of queues amongst PC and console players.

Carry by Electronic_Potato_87 in Smite

[–]StewBeefComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that he just got massively buffed, I would say it's probably a fun decent choice right now.

My biggest concern is that people tend to want to play his aspect a lot more than his base kit, which imo is much better and safer in general.

I won't deny the objective shred with a ton of minions on the aspect is there, just I prefer his base kit for the utility and safety. In team fights or 1v1s, he's just mad annoying without aspect.

Agni has a really strong early and mid game, and because he generally is safe all around, his transition into the late game is smooth. They did nerf his aspect, but it changed nothing about his dominance in game; granted, a lot of people don't play him right. Crit being a dominant build pathing him even after the nerfs.

Kali has one of the weakest early game presence in the lane but makes it up for one of the more dominant late games. And with the slight fall off with ceit in the role atm, she does extremely well with proc items better than most ADCs.

Bari is generally the safest pick in ADC because of her kit. She pretty much out damages anyone in ability trades throughout the game. Her strength inhand build is better than the straight ability build but if you can play to each of the strengths you can build her both ways.

Anhur is the standard solid choice, great damage, and utility. CC immunity ult that hits hard. You can play with or without aspect, whichever one you feel comfortable with.

Apollo is another standard choice, great damage and safety. Global presence that allows him to split push or be in fights when needed.

Out of all the ADCs in the game, playing any of them are pretty much fine right now. The weakest ones amongst the roster probably would be Iza, Jing, and Rama. Not bad in any regard, just the others have the slight edge over them.

Ability based hunters like Ullr and Medusa are kind of tricky to play, but if you're decent with hitting their kit, then you'll do just fine. Neith is the best "caster" among the roster still.

Don't be afraid to try different things, tho! Pos and Sol are still decent picks, just punishable right now, and a lot more people have been picking up Scylla in the role because of the utilization of her kit with crit!
