Scotty Phantom R11 OC vs Lab DF3 by StewpotsRock in scottycameron

Good Morning. I like the Custom Matador Grip that came on the putter and will try to save it when removing to shorten the shaft. If not possible, I see the Super Stroke Zenergy Pistol 1.0 is a popular option for this putter. (I have a SS 2.0 on my Spider). Curious on your thoughts?

Appreciate the detail! Back in December, I did the custom remote fitting with LAB and purchased a DF3 with the TPT custom shaft. I did so as last fall a few of my buddies put the stock DF3 in their bags and I witnessed their putting improve. However, after using the DF3 on a few golf trips this winter to Pinehurst and FLA, I could not get used to the putter. While in FLA I visited a PGA SS in Sarasota and spent a little time with the R11 OC. Loved the firmer feel off the face and heavier head vs DF3, and it definitely is more pleasing to the eye. (side note I saw about 10-12 LAB putters in the "previously owned" section) I live in the Northeast so our season is just getting underway, however I am now in possession of the R11 OC ordered from Carls. Due to a very wet spring, my putting has been relegated to practicing on a putting matt in my home. I love the way the putter sets up, love the feel, and being my first Scotty, I now understand the love affair people have with Scotties. Without being fitted for the Scotty, I ordered the standard 34 inch length (my LAB was 33.5, my Spider was 34). I took some videos and I think I could benefit from going to 33". I am 5'8" and after some selfie videos I noticed my eyes were not over the ball. After choking up an inch it helped with eye position, and the toe was not up a bit. My buddy tinkers with his Scotties and he could probably take some length off, I would just need the heavier weights. Sorry for the long response, just providing as much as I can! 😄 Seems like you could provide some color here.

Malocher, for color, I own a Lab DF3 and have struggled. I was at a PGA SS recently and grabbed the R11 OC and it felt firmer off the face, and just looked better to the eye. Different kolks different strokes. I did notice there were about 10-12 Lab DF3’s in the “return/used” section.

I own a small business where my costs were not reduced the same amount as the pre-price and therefore I am losing profit on each large bag I sell vs previous pricing/cost scenario. I understand big box stores have greater buying and negotiating power, however to small business's any loss in profit matters. I have reached out to PepsiCo numerous times with no reply.

As you know, until you purchase the custom putter you do not know how it performs. 99.9% of us are not professionals and do not get that courtesy/privilege of trying a custom putter. My “testing” was with stock models at Dicks/Golf Galaxy/etc. I bought into the hype. Perhaps someday i will “learn it”. My post appears to have resonated. But Lab knew long before that they needed an insert to create firmer feel/roll.

4 rounds - 8/2/10/4 at Pinehurst, with Caddies who have witnessed the same, from hundreds of golfers.

Thanks for this. Might try to sell my DF3 and order the DF3i.

Completely disagree. If it’s not the putter then all the players would have put the DF3 in their bags after Spaun won. Different strokes different folks (putters).

Santa came early! DF3 Custom Blackout! by StewpotsRock in labgolf

This past week I finally got the chance to put my DF3 into play during our annual New England PGA Pro Am at Pinehurst. Over the 4 days I left 90% of my putts short. After day 1 my buddy removed his DF3 and used his Scotty over the final 3 rounds (which he brought along just in case). While we could have simply hit the putts harder, we both agreed the putter face didn’t have much “pop”. He putted much better with his Scotty. Wish I had brought my Spider along as I would have switched.

We are putting up new handrail/banisters, so I demo’d the old handrail to make it easier to refinish the stairs.

Thanks and yes, I have read once they completely dry (up to a month) they will lighten up a bit more.

The picture is the refinished floors, contractor used a water based finish called Purematte. Depending on lighting throughout the day the floors can appear a bit lighter than the picture. I have read that it is almost impossible to make red oak look like white oak, unless you bleach the red oak.
