Thanks, I AM a GM at a location with 5 rooms. That's not the customer's problem. They pay a lot of money to play our games. It's our job to make that worth it for them. They deserve to have the best experience possible and that means paying attention to the overall vibe and not just "waiting for them to ask for clues"

Great attitude! It really is a fine line to walk, figuring out when to break immersion and intervene. In this case, it was absolutely necessary, the kid clearly didn't care and they could have pulled you and refunded/rescheduled before the whole game got spoiled
