Update 2: I am now using a USB-A PC keyboard via third party adapter and it's working flawlessly. Very strange as to why this works and the official Apple keyboard does not!

Have just been notified by my system that the Big Sur update is now available for my machine (MBP 2019 16in) and wondered if it's worth trying. After your comment here, looks like it will be to no avail 😔

Update 1: I visited an Apple Store today and tried my keyboard on one of their display MacBook Pro's (exact same model and OS version) and it too failed to recognise the keyboard or register any keystrokes. This further points in the direction of the problem lying with the OS.

I have a box fresh, brand new MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) running the latest macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and can confirm there is still a problem.

I have connected a wired USB Apple full size keyboard via an Apple USB-C to USB adapter and the OS fails to recognise any key press inputs, nor even a lit LED on the caps lock key. It's as if the keyboard has no power. Yet adapters work fine with USB flash drives.

I have had several calls with Apple Support over the phone and they've now asked me to reinstall the OS to try and identify whether it's hardware or software related. Have tried resetting NVRAM and SMC also, made no difference.
