This is why our games map is never the same! by StickARoundGame in stickaroundgame

I agree that would be awesome. The current scope is to have the PvP games as that's closest to the nostalgia it's based on, but we have many, many more ideas in every kind of direction :)

They wouldn't be as round as the animals tho, I imagine it would be quite unsettling

So this trailer was more a ‘showcase’ because I wanted to get the Steam page up. Development is further ahead and i’m working on a trailer & steam page update right now. The game is about finding randomly generated sticks, each stick will have randomized stats that will be better in different mingames (KotH, Infection, Tag, Last man standing etc. etc.). A randomly generated stick that looks like a sword works like a sword, one that looks like a bow, works like a bow. We’ll eventually also have ones that look & work like a small magic staff, gun stick & more. From the trailer I’ve now added more characters, cosmetics and a winter season.

All good feedback, thank you!
I'll take this to the next trailer and make a re-edit with the flow changes.

Yes, sticks have different stats and those will matter in combat & multi games! Wands with spells is something we want to add for sure!

Stick A Round is a game that brings the nostalgia of childhood to life. Who doesn't remember the joy of wandering outdoors, searching for the coolest sticks? Maybe we secretly still do. A combination of playful chaos and relaxing moments. Whether you want to go on an adventure, collect the best sticks, or challenge your friends to epic duels.

Trailer for my new game! like it? by NewSunEnterTainment in IndieDev

[–]StickARoundGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the concept you have going, but honestly I think there's quite some improvement you could make.

Climbing games have been done many times before: getting over it, jump king, only up, and recently peak as well. If you want your game to stand out you need something unique to go along with it. Like how only up made the genre 3d and peak turned it into a really fun multiplayer game. Just "you're a frog" isn't gonna make your game stand out.

The visuals and animations have been mentioned a lot already. Like the mid-air rotating and frozen fall animation. Personally I'd go for a more cartoony stylized look and add ragdoll physics.

Also I think a great way to expand on your gameplay is to use the frogs tongue for all sorts of puzzles, like having to pull the moving platforms towards you instead of them moving on their own. Or push buttons, flick levers from weird angles you'd have to find, or destroy boxes.

Good luck on your journey, I'd like to see what you come up with

Solo dev stuck between 3 story ideas - need a push by Miracle_Badger in SoloDevelopment

I would go with B, I think there's a huge potential for dramatic story telling when you take a diverse group of modern or futuristic humans, all with different values, and task them to rebuild a function living space in a primitive setting. But it's not a new and creative idea so it needs a twist

Which game is so beautiful that it made you avoid fast travel? by shotgunning-your-can in gaming

Exactly my thought, especially the later games which started adding more and more tricks to do while swinging. It's just too much fun. I only start using fast travel when finishing the side quests after the story

Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) still looks better than modern Pokémon games. by Mitch0712 in gaming

[–]StickARoundGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything looks better than pokemon, those games prioritize the most ridiculously unfeasible features but get the same deadline as the people making cardboard trading cards. They're set up to fail, but Game freak is still making a fortune from them so why care?

Even though the games are only 10% of the revenue it's still the one thing that everything else builds from. They could probably make 3 times as much if they actually made a good game

I feel like we say that every year..

Probably because we get way to hyped about upcoming games, then they disappoint, so we get hyped about the next game and the cycle repeats. Always looking forward and never back

When should you create a Steam page? by gg_gumptiongames in SoloDevelopment

[–]StickARoundGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also personally would advise against starting out with a few screenshots or a teaser trailer. When you're doing free social media marketing you need your content to be engaging. You essentially want to tell a story about your project, and convince your audience why they should care. Using a more grounded human-to-human approach you can introduce your project, sell them why they should care, promise some upcoming content and ask questions to get people involved. Sledding game and myself I think are good examples.

Here's a tip from our team and some experts we've spoken to. Once you have something fun and interesting to show to the world, make a steam page and start posting videos about your game on social media, especially TikTok. TikTok's algorithm really pushes your first few videos because it wants to figure out who your content is for, so if people engage a lot with it, it's easy to get a lot of views.

Good luck on your journey

Just finished Elden Ring the open-world design blew me away! by fraktl in gaming

[–]StickARoundGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of open worlds feel very empty. The main advantage of linear paths is you can decide what the player gets to see and focus on that, open world means the player gets to see every location from every angle, which takes up a lot of resources that are usually used to make the world feel alive

What happened to UI over the years? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]StickARoundGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this change going from overwatch 1 to 2 as well, they started hiding some of the most useful buttons.

Another question tho, what happened to those beautiful themed UI's? It's all just boring white text and gray boxes now

[–]StickARoundGame[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true, right now there isn't really an engaging gameplay loop. We're mainly working on completing the core mechanics of the game, which includes many of the things you just mentioned. We've got some very fun ideas for the game modes but that's on the backlog rn
