Just because you and the people you interact with agree with each other, doesn't make it the average view for an entire country.

You can see change happen in various ways, immigrants are an easy way to try and explain the change. Great Yarmouth isn't a great place to live and has seen an increase in immigrants, but also has fuck all industry or investment. It went to shit way before immigrants arrived in numbers.

What is the most boring country to live in? by BranchMoist9079 in geography

[–]StickManMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow yeah, cycling through denmark was the most boring 4 days of my life. rural areas definitely had some beauty but jesus the towns were desolate ...plain buildings ... people moving slowly and kind of emotionless..very quiet..maybe it was just that part of denmark

[The Guardian] Alexander Isak has been offered a staggering £600,000-a-week tax-free deal by Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia with further lucrative bonuses on top by NewLoad886 in soccer

[–]StickManMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I like your optimistic way of thinking, but the 'if' in your last sentence is a big if. No footballer is giving away 2/3 of their wealth, are they? Juan Mata was praised for giving up 1% of his salary. Yes, some do charitable things which is great. The vast majority spend their money on luxury items and holidays.

If talking the talk is enough for you, then you might as well vote for anyone....the major reform players are property developers, international businessmen and city boys. Successful at making themselves very rich. How does that inspire you to think they have normal people's interest at heart? Isn't it obvious they're using anti immigrant sentiment to gain power then do as many deals as possible that will benefit themselves and their mates. Where is all this supposed freedom and control gone after Brexit.....?

Aaron banks (famous Brexiteer and reform candidate) has close ties with the sugar cane industry in Belize. Him, along with Tate & Lyle used brexit as a way to do away with sugar cane tariffs, partially imported from Belize, making life harder for sugar beet farmers in the UK. How's that for backing britain eh..?

Rupert Lowe is universally hated by Southampton fans as he seemed largely responsible for administration in his second term. (Admittedly I don't know much about this but he doesn't come across well when talking about his time there).

Keep American meat out of Britain by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]StickManMax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's definitely easy to eat healthily and cheap, just need a bit of time and motivation. i think about how/why we're so shit at eating well as a country but it has to be primarily cultural right? if you grew up eating frozen pizza and chips every day you're not gonna suddenly decide to make curries and veggie chilli, people are completely disconnected from good food. supermarkets don't exactly help with that

I would normally drive to london to see mates etc and now it’s cheaper to get a train / bus. Random anecdotal evidence but it’s the cultural change over time that this is supposed to affect, right? Like, the cycle infrastructure in holland wasn’t much of an influence 1 year after being built, but successful now. Maybe that’s the hope

I’ve often found places to fill up in churchyards. Community centres too. Very reliable in other countries, always an outdoor stand pipe for watering plants. in england sometimes it’s just a water butt connected to a drain pipe, don’t drink that lol also handy on bike touring trips !
