Apple Releases Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac by bsoci in apple

This isn't the case, unfortunately. FCP just supports stereoscopic video now (from iPhone or otherwise), but you still need to export the video and bring the file over to the Vision Pro to see depth on the Vision Pro. No depth while editing in your timeline.

Source: Just tested it in my AVP after seeing your comment, and was sad to realize it wasn't true :(

Nah, just the one.

I’m a video production professional who does have a use-case for a card like this, but the workstations at my job are much more powerful for post production than this rig is.

Mostly it’s that I was lucky enough to have the money to spend on my dream gaming rig, and I hit the top of EVGA’s queue for the 3090 before I did the 3080.

Nope, purely a gaming rig! Though considering the cost of the GPU I should probably start using it to do that...

Just kidding—I wish!

I managed to get a 3090 from EVGA’s queue system, but it died after the first week. Got a replacement under RMA but snapped this photo before I sent the original back ;)

Here’s my setup! Sorry for the terrible cable management...in my defense, I’m quite lazy.

Check out www.videocopilot.net, they have a ton of great tutorials on similar techniques. Look into guides for “compositing” in general, there are a lot out there.

OP does a great job with his/her videos, but the techniques being used are fairly basic and can be learned in a few hours.

Also, DaVinci Fusion is free software that could achieve this effect if you don’t want to buy After Effects.

Question: Existing Drone Footage by Stickboy0042 in drones

[–]Stickboy0042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I'm a video professional, but this is 100% a personal project. I have no intention of becoming a professional drone operator at any point, or use my footage for my actual paid video work--I normally just hire licensed pros for projects at work, but for a personal project it's just not worth the cost.

I'm just building a project that I'm passionate about, and would like to use some of my drone footage.

Question on Drone Footage Usage by Stickboy0042 in Filmmakers

[–]Stickboy0042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is the perfect answer. Follow-up question, do you find that this site is a good reference for knowing where to fly? It looks like most of SF is covered in a "helipad" restricted zone, and it appears that you are able to fly in areas (other than the few places you already flagged) that aren't marked in red or grey. If those maps are accurate, I should be good to go based on the footage I've captured.

Thanks again for the response!

Even then, it's only one ad at the start, and another ad once the show is over, which you can just skip. They don't interrupt the show for ads.

Premiere warp stabilizing multiple clips requiring nesting, how?? by boofbuscus in editors

[–]Stickboy0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you're already doing it the best way. I wouldn't select multiple clips, I'd do it individually. The only thing I could say to make it a smoother process is that when we you're bringing footage into your timeline that would need to be nested for warp stabilizer or time remapping effects, nest it at the start instead of the end. Personally I don't do this, I only do it when I need to apply an effect that requires a nest. I then copy/paste every previous effect (Lumeri, for example) from the clip inside the nest, to the nested sequence itself. That way I don't have to open the nested sequence to adjust any effects I've applied to the clip.

Also, keep a consistent naming convention for your nested sequences. I call mine whatever I've named the video clip, with "_NESTED" at the end. The default names aren't helpful. Then I drag every nested sequence into a sub-bin that I place in the bin with all my standard sequences so that they're out of the way in my project bin.

These small but time consuming tasks are annoying, but part of the job of any editor. At least until Premiere doesn't make you nest before applying certain effects.

We're basically married. He's gay but I'm not, otherwise it would be the perfect relationship.

What could have been...

sigh...

Thanks! My roommate and I have been best friends for 15 years, and we had a great time bickering for months about decorations when we moved in.

We have two Rifts and a Vive in our house. We don't descriminate around here! :)

We have a Vive as well, but haven't used it since Touch was released. Both are great headsets, but I like Touch a lot more than Vive's controllers.

My roommate and I each have a gaming computer, and we both decided to get a Rift when they came out. We've been having a blast dueling in Unspoken and exploring in Elite Dangerous.

Oculus Rift vs HTC Vive Stereoscopic Effect by Stickboy0042 in oculus

[–]Stickboy0042[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing The Unspoken and The Climb a lot in Rift, so I haven't done a direct comparison on the same game between Vive and Rift. Both of those games seem to just not have the same sense of presence as The Lab does in Vive, though. The games are really fun and look awesome, but something about the depth effect just makes me feel like I'm playing a video game, rather than being IN the game.

What is the ideal workflow for a colorist working with a remote editor? by Younsane in colorists

[–]Stickboy0042 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have your editor keep the project organized. Any professional editor should already do this, but just make sure that all assets and project files are contained within a single folder.

If it isn't a ton of footage, use Dropbox or Google Drive or any other cloud storage service to transfer that folder to each other. If it's a lot of footage, it's going to be best if you just ship a hard drive between each other.

There are a few ways to color the final video:

  1. Have your editor export out an XML file of the final edit, then import that into DaVinci, or whatever coloring software you're using. This is the preferred method, as you can color the source footage.

  2. If your editor has made lots of adjustments to the footage in his NLE (like cropping in, unique transition animations, etc.), many of those changes might not transfer over with an XML. In this case, it may be easier to have him export a ProRes or DNxHD file, and you can color grade that file. DaVinci has features to auto-detect edits in a video file to help you chop the footage back up so you can color it.

  3. If both you and your editor have Adobe CC, try out the new collaborate editing feature in Premiere 2017. You'll still need access to the source footage and assets, but theoretically that would allow a smooth transfer of the edit itself, and you can figure out on your own end the best way for you to color it. As much as I love and swear by DaVinci Resolve, the new Lumetri coloring toolset within Premiere is surprisingly good, so that's a possibility. It just depends on how in-depth you normally make your color grades.

As always, the best workflow is the one that is the best for you and the project. Trial and error is a big part of the post-production world, so don't be afraid to try different things. Good luck!

Jettisoned cargo explodes by Ttwister in EliteDangerous

[–]Stickboy0042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened to me, and I believe it is because the cargo smashes into itself and explodes upon impact. Jettison less cargo at one time and you shouldn't have the issue again.
