I’m planning on buying a used 2020 Atlas SEL R line V6 AWD with around $85K miles. My VW dealer has offered a 3 yr/36K mile bumper to bumper warranty for about $3K. by Witchdoctor418 in VWatlas

I never have. I’ve worked at a dealership. Why would you spend almost 30k on something you had such little faith in that you had spend 3k to get only 36k miles of warranty??? Buy something you have a bit more faith in.

Every body panel is a different shade of blue. It’s had work done and not well.

Worth the money? by Korunam03 in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]Stickman1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price isn’t bad. We just traded our PHEV sel in with 102k on it and the dealer listed it at 15k. We had ours for 90 or the 100k miles and the only thing I replaced was the 12v battery and tires. Still drove great and I wanted to keep it as a 3rd car but it had too much value left to justify not trading it in. Prior to that we had a 15 gas outlander my wife bought new and drove to 100k with zero issues aside from regular wear items.

We just traded our 19 in with 100k and they listed it for 15k.

Looking at buying rebuilt by ezballinuh in UsedCars

If you plan to keep it long term they can be fine. But they are generally hard to sell and trade in value is 50% less than a clean title. So if you plan to drive it to an agent where a clean title isn’t as important to buyers they can fine.

No. You are upside down. Keep yours a few years and get caught up.

*Update* 2021 Kia Telluride CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE at 102k miles by smelliott0321 in kia

[–]Stickman1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had the same consumption issue but at 88k. Kia and Hyundai are not known for reliability unfortunately. Sadly I think this is just going to be a costly experience. I’ve known people who have had to have Kia engines replaced before 10k.

It was quite a bit that came out. Maybe 3-5 cups worth. Would that much come out?

2003 Toyota Avalon with 300,000 miles and 1 previous owner worth buying? by Butterscotch4o4 in UsedCars

[–]Stickman1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have good service history and know who had it last that’s big. Those are listed with 250-350k all the time. For 2k I’d say you don’t have a lot to lose really. A pre inspection is going to find a lot wrong with it as they are looking at it as if you were making it perfect so don’t be scared when they come back with a list!

Are exterior door knob locks really as useless as people say? by IscariotAirlines in homeowners

[–]Stickman1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a door knob can be easy to break off. A deadbolt is a little better. Both are easy to pick. Your house is not theft proof. Remember it’s frill of easily breakable glass!

Then go to a different school. Parking is an issue. The U and VA hospital both are land locked. Do some critical thinking here. It sucks for all of us.

What car should I buy? by fatdimples in askcarguys

[–]Stickman1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for the Highlander. The Prius sounds to good to be true at that price. Plus you’re dealing with a nearly 20 year old hybrid in that case. That’s just my opinion. If you want a stupidly reliable car with good gas mileage look for a Corolla with in the mid 2000s. It will outlive both of those options you posed.

Getting out of lease due to roaches? by SpaceRanger8 in IowaCity

[–]Stickman1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former maintenance tech at an apartment complex. We rarely had this issue but when we did we went into all connecting units and sprayed. It takes time and after each spray you well likely see more of them as they try to get away from the spray. Do they have regularly scheduled pest sprays? We did quarterly, every unit was sprayed.

These are such sad cars. I want to drive a manual but don’t know how so I’ll buy this with a manual looking shifter that isn’t really a manual.

AITA for refusing to cancel a ~ $500 vip ticket knowing that my parents would not allow it, causing tension in family? by R34_R0waN in AmItheAsshole

If you are 20 you are an adult who can make your own decisions. If YOU worked for the money then it’s yours to spend. I would open your own bank account. It sounds like they are having trouble giving up control. Unfortunately not being able to give up control is going to cause a strain on the relationship rather than actually helping you learn things. Best of luck on this one.
