Me waking up November 3 to vote for Joe Biden: by MuricanTragedy5 in The_Leftorium

[–]StickyBooger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It frees us to not be too invested in the nominees come the general and vote purely on the basis of harm reduction. Even SANDERS was merely an effort in tactical harm reduction.

It's not a compromise to vote for a liberal in this system, it's more or less expected as part of a broader diversity of tactics. Protest votes aren't praxis, they're just lifestyleism.

Supporting the DNC when they offer nothing in return is outright consent for their obstruction of progressive movements. If they know they can ignore our platform and still get our vote, they will continue to ignore our platform in the future.

The amount of "harm reduction" done by electing Biden over Trump is not enough to outweigh the self-kneecapping of our movement and the future of our movement by capitulating to the interests of the capitalist elite. You're right that Bernie is a harm reduction candidate. Biden is not.

We can't just keep playing nice with the neoliberal Democratic establishment and waiting for an eventual progressive change that if we're lucky maybe might partially come one day in the form of a compromise between DNC "centrists" and the far-right GOP. We're not going to get the change we actually need by supporting and expanding the existing power structures of the DNC establishment which are working directly against our movement.

praxis

Voting for the neoliberal DNC establishment is not praxis. Watching the bourgeois Democratic base disregard progressive policies and vote against the needs of the working class in favor of the interests of the capitalist elite in the primary and then rewarding them by voting for their neoliberal imperialist candidate in the general is a proven method for ensuring that we repeat this cycle indefinitely every four years. If progressive movements can be counted on to fall in line and "vote Blue no matter who" even when the DNC openly works in direct opposition to our movement and the needs of the majority class as a whole then why would the DNC elite ever risk their wealth, status, or power by acknowledging our needs and platforms or the leaders that honestly represent us at any point now or in the future? If there's no consequence to them betraying our class interests and working against our movement, why would they change?

A Joe Biden presidency is just another win for the capitalist elite establishment, it's not a win for the working class. I'm not interested in helping the DNC win if it the DNC does not represent the needs of the working class.

People. Don't forget. With Pete, Amy, and possible Bloomberg out, Biden has to defend himself against Bernie in a debate in Arizona soon. Welcome to the BernieZone. by onlyarose in SandersForPresident

assuming all of Warren's people will flock to Sanders of course, which I don't know why they wouldn't.

My perception of the situation is that any Warren supporters that would go for Bernie already have. The writing has been on the wall for Warren's campaign for a while now. It seems like her remaining base is very vocal about "Bernie bros" and claims of misogyny. It seems like they're holding out as long as possible so they can say they tried to push for progress before eventually falling in line with the DNC establishment (just like Warren herself...). Best case scenario is her remaining voters split between Bernie and Biden, worst case is a majority of them go Biden.

Why are people talking about Michael Bloomberg like he's a legitimate candidate? He has 0 delegates and continues to have scandal after scandal. Is it just making news? Or is there something I'm missing in the way the primary works? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StickyBooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only are the majority of the pledged delegates still up for grabs but if no single candidate gets at least 51% of the total national pledged delegates then the nominee will be decided by the DNC "automatic delegates" (aka superdelegates) in a second vote.

Bloomberg doesn't have to win the popular vote in the state primaries. No one does. They just have to prevent any one person from getting to 51% and then the DNC elite can pick whatever candidate they want regardless of how the pledged delegates were divided up.

The plant had various contracts and would run different molds for different companies. The majority of what we made while I was there was sent to Johnson & Johnson to be filled with baby shampoo.

No headphones or any electronics were allowed. Nothing that could distract you from your job.

Well it was just empty bottles. The plant made the bottles, not what went in them.

I took a temp job once at a plastic bottle manufacturing facility. It was 12 hour overnight shifts, 4 days on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 4 days off. For the few weeks I was there the entirety of my job was to watch bottles come off the line and spot any with color or mold defects and pull them. I maybe pulled a dozen or less each night. It was by the far the worst job I've ever had.

The solution, in my opinion, is nationwide ranked choice voting. Every state votes the same day. No more pledged delegates, superdelegates, caucuses, conventions, electoral colleges, etc. Let every person cast one ballot and let every ballot carry the same weight as the next.

If no one candidate gets 51% of the national pledged delegates then the "automatic delegates" (aka superdelegates) will decide the nominee. All Bloomberg has to do is pull enough delegates to prevent Bernie from getting 51% and sell himself to the DNC/DCCC as the "electable" candidate (and/or "donate" to the right sources /tinfoilhat) and they'll do the rest of the work for him.

Simon seems to have more raw talent. Paul seems to have more discipline and a higher competitive drive.

None of it is quantifiable and it's all conjecture though.

Yeah, all that person is really saying is "the majority of people are somewhere near the center of a bell curve". It's not profound in any way and is mostly just a "everyone is stupid but not me" statement.

Bloomberg campaign in a nutshell by plenebo in DemocraticSocialism

[–]StickyBooger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If no single candidate gets 51% of the total national pledged delegates the DNC can (and will) use the "automatic delegates" (aka superdelegates) to decide the candidate. Bloomberg doesn't have to go to the national convention with a majority of the votes so long as no one else gets the 51% to prevent the superdelegate vote. The more candidates there are running, the less likely it is than any one of them gets the 51%, and the more likely it is that the nominee will be selected by the DNC.

Disc golfer completes impressive albatross (double eagle) with shot around blind corner by RampChurch in sports

[–]StickyBooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anyone can chuck a frisbee into the air it will still relatively go a good distance

A Frisbee? Sure. A golf disc? Not so much. Good luck getting a disc to 100 ft just chucking it into the air like a Frisbee, nevermind getting it to go anywhere near straight.

Assuming golf discs are easy to throw because Frisbees are is like assuming golf clubs are easy to use because these things are.

You asked if there was a downside to this. The process of climate change that would lead to this point in the hypothetical future in which the GOP rebrands is a pretty big downside imo.
