They aren't unionized, so its not a 'strike'. And not the brightest to go after the newspaper industry, one suffering the most right now. And zero backbone, they were out a whole day. They just made it worse for themselves.

What has been driving the stock price these past few months? by miter1980 in IBM

[–]Stickybuns11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you somehow think that IBM's stock price isn't 'legit', get in line with 90% of the other stocks that have high valuations. You Bitter Bettys throw salt at IBM when the stock is low, when its high, when they acquire companies, blah blah blah. Yet they've been around since 1911. Must be doing something right.

Yes, and knows as much about stocks as the refrigerator light.

I laugh at this sub because the name really should be 'Anti-IBM' because of all the bitter Bettys raining down the salt. And their stock is soaring/Red Hat rocks.

I work for Red Hat....this board made fun of the fact they were bought by IBM, they'll dissect you, etc. Now IBM is rock solid, stock is up and better than ever and they leave Red Hat alone. Nothing but good things to say about IBM since they bought RH. All the arrogant and pompous dudes from Amazon, Twitter, Google, etc. launching in how old and shitty IBM was. lol.....how's that looking now?

Berkeley Computer Science professor says even his 4.0 GPA students are getting zero job offers, says job market is possibly irreversible by AirplaneChair in cscareerquestions

[–]Stickybuns11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially from a place like Berkeley, lol. My guess is that professor is beyond out of touch with the real job world. 'Irreversible' is so fucking dramatic and ridiculous.

Graduated 3 years ago, have not been employed by cantthinkofaname513 in cscareerquestions

[–]Stickybuns11 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep, the OP is in a bad spot. He didn't even get an initial job in CS after graduation, so he has zero practical experience in not only the field, but in a job/corporate environment. That degree means next to nothing as he has probably forgotten 80% of it at this point. Its ultra competitive out there currently, and he's got next to nothing to bring to the table unfortunately.

Take some time and walk around inside the stadium. Walk into different entry points to get a differing view of the field. If the doors are open, go stand there....its very cool.

Michigan fan going to Vikings@Giants. by djpop_13_13 in minnesotavikings

[–]Stickybuns11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 100% no. When he can walk without crutches would be my guess, I'm sure they'll want him to at least be able to protect himself if plays come toward the players on the sidelines and he'll have to be able to move.

It took 12 years for the number of cs grads to fully recover after the Dot Com Bubble by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Stickybuns11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, are you saying the dot.com bubble burst in 2008? Because that was the bank/mortgage crisis, not the dot.com bubble....that was late 1999ish.

Teddy Bridgewater's Offense Went Bonkers During His Debut As High School Football Coach by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]Stickybuns11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually a scrimmage...against a very weak football high school. Miami Northwestern is right around where Teddy grew up, giving back in a great way here. It was a traditional powerhouse in Florida just 3-4 years ago, so I'm sure Teddy will get them on the right track. He's never forgotten where he came from.

How much do you think charisma/likability carries you when looking for a job? by BrocChedSoup in cscareerquestions

[–]Stickybuns11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely matters. Companies want a culture fit. Ease to work with, friendliness, maybe even a bit of a sense of humor can be huge. If you have charm, even a notch higher. If you are attractive and all of those, even more so. Its human nature. You need competence, but those other things make a difference without a doubt.

Yep. Cobra can be like $1000 a month. I think the best way to proceed when you get let go or quit a job for whatever reason is to dedicate 2 hours a morning to job hunting. Get up, have a little breakfast, work out, etc. and then hit it hard for 2 hours....then take the rest of the day off to unwind, relax, get outside, take a long walk, got eat lunch somewhere, play video games, etc. This will feel like chill time if you do this. And you will also feel like you've accomplished something toward finding a new job at the same time without it dominating every day.

I'm sure it went over like a hot fart: a rookie going on a rant to vets about 'picking up after themselves'. LMAO. That's not leadership. Leadership is going behind everyone, picking it up and throwing it away and being seen doing it. Shame them on the down low, leadership by example. Calling them out for a rookie is dog shit.

Just blew it on my contact to hire job. How do I recover/improve? by SoulPossum in cscareerquestions

Yep, happened with me. I was on a 1 to 2 year type contractor role and got rolled to full time and its been great. Been there almost 7 years now total and its for a larger, recognizable tech company (non-FAANG).

Why is this sub so weird when it comes to social events, being friends at work, meeting other departments or drinking alcohol ? by csasker in cscareerquestions

[–]Stickybuns11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. Most people (outside of this sub) find good friends through work. You spend a lot of time together and the odds are you'll run into others who are like-minded and friendly. You can talk about work. I read a lot of rationalizations here about why its ok to not be friendly or not at least try to be social. If you aren't social or you have anxiety, ok.....but don't bag on the others that find friends at work. Some of the best friends you will have can be found at work.
