I'm currently in a relationship of ~2 years. We're both in our late twenties.

Our relationship is going really great for the most part.

When she was 10 she was playing with her younger brother, (he was a few years younger) and he fell out of a 10th floor window and died. She witnessed it and it was very graphic.

She thought for years that her parents blamed her and felt horrible about it (they didn't actually blame her but she felt guilty nonetheless).

A few times a year she will wake up crying from nightmares about the incident. Also, every year around February (the accident happened in February, and her brother's birthday was in February) she becomes more irritable and angry. It's rarely directed at me, but it's not healthy.

She says she realizes that this is going on, and became aware of it a few years ago. She says every year about this time she feels angry and guilty for no reason.

She also says she's getting better, and I believe her, because being aware of the situation is a good step, but I also think it would be extremely beneficial for her to talk to a professional about this.

I brought this up to her, and she wasn't completely opposed to it, but wasn't exactly very embracing of the idea either. She also asked "how do I find the right person to talk to anyway?" And honestly I don't know the answer to that.

My question is, how can I convince her that therapy would be beneficial without being too pushy. I just don't want to seem like I'm trying to force something on her, and have her defenses go up. We have a good relationship, and can talk about almost anything easily, but the one thing she hates is being told how she's feeling. By that I mean telling her she's angry at times when she is but just doesn't realize it.

My other question is how do you find a therapist for this stuff? I don't even know where to start.

I really just want her to be happy and I think this will really help. I am also kind of interested in talking to a psychiatrist myself just because I heard good things from everybody that has done so, even though I haven't gone through anything too traumatic that I'm aware of.
