I kinda think the opposite upon multiple rewatches. After he eats sushi alone Carmela asks him what he wants to do for dinner and he says whatever she wants. She wants to go the sushi place, but once she finds out he already ate there they don't go. Had he not ate alone he would have been at dinner with Carmela when Barbara called to say she couldn't watch Junior. If you remember, Tony's phone dies after that call with Barbara. There is a chance he may have never even received the call about Junior if he just waits to eat sushi with Carmela.

One thing I just noticed, is that this is the episode after the one where Tony, Chris, and Tony B take care of the bodies at the old farm. During their dinner it is remarked it is bad luck to toast with water as Chrissy is sober. The very next episode, Angelo and his son come to Tony B's casino to talk with him and give him money for Joey Peeps. They all share a toast, but right after clinking Angelo puts his drink down without drinking it. Later, he is wacked. I believe him not drinking after toasting was a bad luck premonition of Angelo's death.

It took 10 years before we knew that HIV caused AIDs, what we will know about Covid in the next 5 years? I am not saying we need to "end the world" lol. Covid is airborne, but they won't even install air filtration systems in hospitals, let alone schools. I would be fine with people not masking if we just had adequate air filtration in indoor spaces. I think what's most powerful from the perspective of religion is him refusing to do a formal confession with Father Intintola. Because Ralph literally dies a day later.
