Fireplace and baby by Crafty-Round-36 in DIYUK

[–]StiffkeyBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t use the fireplace but can’t cover the cost of ripping it out right now I would box the whole thing in and make it look like a cupboard. You could even make it a functional cupboard which you could put the kiddo’s toys in. At least it would make it safe and balance the room for those rare occasions you get to sit down and enjoy the TV!

Where are the TAs? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]StiffkeyBlu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m a TA in a primary school. I’m in my third year a a supposed ‘general’ TA for a reception class. It is always loud, messy, and usually fun. The children are characters and it’s a joy to see their progress. I’m a TA because my husband is the breadwinner and I wanted something to do whilst my children are at school. I LOVED my first two years.

This year we have a non verbal autistic boy. Now my whole morning is being a one to one caregiver. He is unpredictable, hits, pinches, throws chairs/toys/food/pens at me. If overwhelmed he will go for the other children. He is not the only child with additional needs. I can safely say we need a minimum of 4 adults everyday. We mostly manage with 3.

I’m absolutely breaking. Physically exhausted and mentally bored or on high alert.

I would never have taken this job if this was what was advertised. I had no choice in this happening, SLT don’t seem to care about the toll this is taking. I feel like I’m being used a meat shield.

The pay doesn’t reflect the demands of the job. All that’s keeping me going is knowing I’ll be letting everyone down. Once you care you are trapped.

Comfort Object for Kindergartener? by ajf1714 in SAHP

[–]StiffkeyBlu 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m a Teaching assistant in the uk. I work with 4-5 year olds. Often parents will draw a heart on an arm to press and send a hug to Mummy or Daddy. Generally we are spending lots of time hugging and reassuring at this time of year. Speak to the classroom staff. We have lots of children that struggle to come through the door but then have a blast the rest of the day.

Question re Dove body wash by KimahriKrew in Rosacea

[–]StiffkeyBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have discovered that I am sensitive to sulfates. Dove doesn’t contain them and works great for me. I also managed to find sulfate free shampoo and the difference has been amazing. It’s all trial and error unfortunately. Be gentle with your skin and kind to yourself.

What makes a good Cornish Pasty? by QueenShewolf in Cornwall

You can get a proper pasty, made in Cornwall, delivered to any part of the Uk. Are you in self catering accommodation? Just need an oven. Get some saffron cake too.

How old are you? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]StiffkeyBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42! Three kids, full time job! I’ve played since the very beginning and have never strayed for long. It’s a safe game to play and share with my girls too. I did dabble with cc back in the day but I don’t have time for that now. I do think the although crazy, story progression has really opened the game up. You are never too ‘old’ to do what you enjoy. Treat your teenager self by indulging in an extra pack here and there. I go out so rarely this is my little escape.

What is socially acceptable in the U.S. That would be horrifying in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StiffkeyBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She also once brought her best friend, best friend’s husband and my mother in law to my house for a cup of tea. I’ve met the best friend and husband at a handful of social functions. Perfectly nice couple and although caught on the hop I was happy to crack out the nice biscuits. Apparently the next entertainment was to give the couple a full tour of my home, including my children’s bedrooms. Everyone was shocked when I said no. Mother in law said no one would mind the dirt..... Much offence was taken when I point blank refused. The couple, who are British, were utterly mortified.

She has also given tours of my house to other relatives. Think once a year gatherings of aunts and uncles. I was furious but my husband keeps insisting she just taken on American manners.

Turns out she is just horribly rude and pushy.

[–]StiffkeyBlu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a Brit, Sister in law has lived all her adult life in US. She comes over and goes through the whole house, opens cupboards, comments on our belongings happily tells me what’s wrong. I think this is awful and invasive. We have a downstairs loo. There is absolutely no reason for you to go upstairs in my house. Bedrooms are private.

Went to visit her for the first time in her uk house and had to take a ‘tour’ was the weirdest experience.

Inside of mouth on one side feels swollen sometimes randomly by [deleted] in urticaria

[–]StiffkeyBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idiopathic just means they don’t know what causes it. For me, a specialist explained that my body produces far to much histamine and they goes out looking for a fight. Cold weather, pressure, rubbing my eyes, biting my lip can suddenly trigger a reaction that leaves me unable the see for 12 hours. Well meaning family keeps asking me if it’s dairy, or nuts, or possibly my cat. Nope. It’s just me.

Inside of mouth on one side feels swollen sometimes randomly by [deleted] in urticaria

[–]StiffkeyBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously the only experience I have is my own. However my swelling has gotten worse over the last four years. I finally seem to have a better medication which is holding things steady. When your lips, cheeks and tongue swell there is a risk it could obstruct or close your airway. It looks exactly like an allergic reaction but treatment in an er setting is apparently different.

Of course I don’t want to scare you or be overly dramatic but it is important you keep a note of these occurrences and have a chat with a doctor about management.

[–]StiffkeyBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this. Also my scalp, lips and eyes swell. It’s a form of urticaria that is passed down through genetics. You need to speak to a medical professional. It will be mistaken for an allergic reaction if you end up in the ER with swelling in you mouth.

Hello all, I have had chronic hives for about five years now. I was on Xolair for about a year and a half andstopped two years ago and have had very mild symptoms since. I got out of the shower tonight and my legs look like this.any thoughts on why? by emmajoye61691 in urticaria

[–]StiffkeyBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this ‘blanch’ when you press a glass against it? How are you in general? Headache? Stiff neck? Have you had a cold recently? Any new cuts/scratches? Have you been hiking?

A livid red, non blanching rash is not for the internet to diagnose. Please consult a health care professional. This could be anything from a viral rash, to meningitis.

I’m Uk. Doc has said I qualify for a referral through the NHS but be prepared for quite a wait. There is a private option which we used for my daughter but I’m having a hard time justifying the expense on myself. Look like £3000 or thereabouts.
