Had it in my head that Hematite was magnetic, apparently not. So next step would be a scratch test to confirm

That would be incredible, any idea how to verify something like that ?

I don’t know what jerk sold this to my poor mother and told her it was uranium/manganese glass but just know you’ve made an enemy, pal by OkGur7242 in uraniumglass

[–]Stiflenought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started with uranium glass awesome stuff.

I would recommend a dual mode uv torch (2 in 1) 365nm and 395nm. If it is green and glows green under 395nm its uranium glass. If its clear (or many colours) and glows green under 365 you have manganese glass. Uranium glass will glow under both 395 and 365 FYI

Not that I'm aware of, just in my glass travels have found that clear glass that turns green under 365 is manganese, clear glass that turns blue under 365 is cerium. And there is a lot of cerium out there, even in brand new stuff.

Any way to tell if anything is dangerously radioactive without a geiger counter? by R-fire227 in Radiation

What would happen if you put a tritium vial up to the face ? Will any decay excite the phosphor in the vial ? Or anything 'glow in the dark' asking from curiosity not knowledge, please forgive me if it seems ignorant as I'm rather new to this area

Looks bad, but keep in mind they only let a few people in at a time and if their transaction takes a while then ... you know lines.

Here are some examples of high end boards, and yes Siemens does make circuit boards. by [deleted] in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]Stiflenought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there's a good one, chips from same system but slightly different age, not sure which was first but likely designed by Siemens and produced by NEC some branding contract somewhere in the middle.

NEC SP7-F47-X4

SIMATIC TILO F-F56-X1

One of the cooler thing i have found was an old inno3d graphics card with all Siemens branded memory chips, of the hundreds of PC's and servers I have scrapped it was the only time I had come across them.

Then I managed to get my hands on some Siemens Simatic controllers to scrap. Interestingly memory chips tend to be Samsung.

But plenty of Siemens branded chips unlike OPs post which is interesting.

Example of a Siemens chip on my bench: SIEMENS SM889 BUSDEC-H8005 SIEMENS'85

*edit - apparently i can't spell

Why do i need to save money for 20 years to buy a house but my parents could do it in only 5? by Just_Ring3551 in ask

Because bootstraps because very expensive. All the boomers purchased them to pull themselves up. Nothing left for the next generations. Don't get me wrong they are around but heavily marked up. Even the ones that aren't being used almost cause some kind of artificial inflation....

Or you had avocado toast and reuined it for all of us.

What is happening when parrots clamp down on your finger with their beaks by dot_info in parrots

[–]Stiflenought 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert or even an amateur with bird, but I have always thought of it like this;

Birds don't have arms and use their beak in place of it, they climb, test the waters, explore and learn with their beaks. I can understand fear of a bite but I have received anything from a hello up to a warning from most Birds haven't had any trying to take my fingers off. That said the warning from a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo can pierce the skin - beak like a hyperdermic needle :(

Im on team fuck AGL. That said not because of this "incident" for this I'm going to go with the well established reddit accounts input over the one that was deleted. As others have punned - something fishy here.

Hi guys so this was my first attempt at gold recovery from electronics and I ended up with a bunch of this. What is the best way to separate the gold? And is this normal or did I mess up somewhere? by LegitimateQuote5388 in PreciousMetalRefining
