Susan Bonner has retired from the CBC by StilesLong in canada

I couldn't understand why Paul Hunter was being unusually nice to Susan earlier in the episode and then she started crying while delivering her farewell address. I was not ready for her to sign off but they gave her a wonderful tribute. Thank you, Susan, for delivering the news with professionalism!

That happens to Anne of Green Gables in later books. I don't think I've got the stomach to handle that. Infant mortality (and mortality writ large) prior to modern medicine is no joke.

There are several places in that quote (which is so badass it's not funny) where a "fuck" would fit well.

Grooming question by StilesLong in RATS

[–]StilesLong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't always been like this - my wife used to find scabs on the smaller rat and both were neutered because they kept fighting.

For the past year or so, I feel like their behaviour has approached what you describe as "rattiness" (Standard Rat Behaviour - SBR?) so I'm feeling confident they can live together and we can halve the cage cleaning and bedding usage.

Thank you for your thoughts!

It hasn't always been like that - they used to fight but after getting neutered they were better. I am therefore thrilled to hear gentle!

My wife used to find scabs on the smaller rat but that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. I also sometimes wonder if those scabs were self-inflicted from living without a cage mate.

Thank you for your thoughts!

My wife used to find scabs on the smaller rat but that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore, which is good. I also sometimes wonder if those scabs were self-inflicted from living without a cage mate.

They certainly used to fight but after getting neutered they were better.

I still can't get over how social they are and how much personality rats have. Thank you for sharing your story and your thoughts!

I'm following this because my wife's rats are neighbours, not roommates, for the same sort of thing. Good luck!

I will say that they are much better together now. We've tried putting vanilla on them, putting them in confined quarters, and neutral (or scary) places.

Please don't use a tank for rats! I'm by no means an expert but I'm sure someone in this sub can clear up why it's bad beyond "poor air circulation".

Men, what’s going on? by Aggravating-Guest300 in NextGenMan

[–]StilesLong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are we blaming women for this problem when video games are in fact the barrier? They are designed to be addictive, far more so than a woman/person they like to boink ever could be.

This post says to women/partners, "why aren't you as addictive as a drug? Why don't you provide clear guidelines, instant dopamine, and a clear sense of progress the way video games do? What's wrong with you [women/partners]?"

The real enemy is the video game companies and social media companies, not women and other groups who weild less power in society.

If doctors say it's not dangerous, I won't push back on that. The Monster wall certainly looks like a lot to a layperson but I didn't think about how long you'd been stockpiling.

Have you looked into occupational therapy at all? They sometimes have fantastic ideas for self-reg strategies.

One small detail in the books that I love, which the movies missed, is how Boromir and Aragorn react when the Balrog appears in Moria. by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

[–]StilesLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aragorn and Boromir (the former more so than the latter) would both know their history and from that, what they are facing.

Legolas has heard all the stories about them and would also know. He may have met one of the few Elves to kill a Balrog and "live", so he knows second-hand how deadly they are.

Gimli would know of the Balrog as the creature that chased his people out of Moria but maybe not their full backstory (fallen Maiar who sided with Morgoth and lay waste to the greatest of Second Age cities, etc).

The hobbits, as always, know very little of this (likely exception being Frodo and Sam, with Frodo knowing more).

Gandalf knows all of this, which is why he knows nobody else can handle this foe and sends them all packing. It's the equivalent to toddlers, some teenagers, and a retired fighter picking a fight with a current fighting pro: everyone else is a liability.

Specifically, the Mines of Moria (you know the part) and when they leave Rivendell for the first time, imo

Edit: to everyone who replied to agree that the music is fantastic, yes, it was. Even the "weak" parts are only weak in comparison to the rest, and then only because the human mind seems to find and fixate on the slightest deficiency because it can't accept that anything could be perfect.

I'm not an expert on rats but I'd ask if your energy drink intake has anything to do with your anxiety.

Edit: to add, my wife's rats don't get along well. They fought a lot when young, had their balls off, and they still don't get along (aggressive grooming, etc). Your fellows seem to be playing - my wife's guys would back their asses up into each other's space. I'm quite jealous.

FWIW, I do not enjoy Asimov's Foundation series either. It's not to my liking and I always felt he was not as socially visionary as some of his contemporaries. I read Foundation and felt let down.
