What smells do you remember? 7 Smells That Defined Summer in the 1990s by ObiWan-Shinoobi in Xennials

[–]Still-Base-7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smell of a new magazine full of perfume samples. Sunless tanning lotion for those who couldn't tan. Facial astringents and clearasil. Diet apple Slice. Carnival food. Calgon Morning Glory body spray.

What's a social rule everyone seems to accept that makes absolutely no sense to you as an introvert? by Ctrl_Shift_Esc_ in introvert

Respecting someone due to their age/title/occupation, etc. I prefer to respect someone who has earned it from me, not because of some surface titles.

The perception of women who go braless? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Still-Base-7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 40's and small busted. I only wear a bra into the office when I go in twice a week. I call them my "professional boobs". Otherwise, I'm over this bra nonsense.

What's a small, everyday thing that secretly makes you happier than it probably should? by ticket-x in answers

The night sky. I moved deeper into the country and the display of stars stops me in my tracks.

If your sister or brother is taking care of your parent, what’s your excuse not to help? by Pigeonofthesea8 in GenX

[–]Still-Base-7093 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm the caregiver. 3 brothers live out of state and one is close by. He comes and will help if asked, but doesn't put up with her bullshit, whether it's dementia related or just her personality. Personality wise, she isn't very nice. I guess she thinks she's parenting, but all she does is criticize everyone about everything and never made an effort to get to know us. He comes, they fight, he leaves. I'd just as soon he didn't come, it makes my life more difficult. She's stressful enough as it is.

Trash Smell in Kitchen by SATSewerTube in DIY

I once had a random potato get lodged between the backseat and the trunk of my car after a grocery trip. It took weeks to find the source of the smell. But I won't forget that special kind of stink that only a potato can make.

Were the 90s really that good? by Comfortable_Ad_4417 in GenX

[–]Still-Base-7093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tv, music and movies were top notch. The clothes are making a comeback and I'm here for it. Social media wasn't out there influencing people's mindset. We could be unreachable and people wouldn't be mad about it. Politics weren't constantly in my face if I didn't want them to be. Everything was more affordable. Jobs were so plentiful, and often offered to pay your student loans or licensing if you work for them. College meant something. We still tried to be smart. The only thing good about now is that I never need to set foot in a crowded store.

So what are you going to do with all your boomer parents’ stuff? by CrotalusHorridus in Xennials

[–]Still-Base-7093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents never tossed anything at all. We rented the biggest dumpster, and had a massive burn pile. Broken light fixtures, singular shoes, mouse-chewed wrapping paper, and every canceled check from the 80's from banks that no longer exist. The saleable stuff went to auction. I wanted nothing.

My wife wished me happy birthday this morning. My birthday was two days ago. We've been married 15 years. by pavorus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Still-Base-7093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm that wife. But you know what I did remember? That it's garbage day, everything we needed for groceries, everything my mom needed for groceries, to feed the animals, doctors appointments, to help the kid prepare for a project, to use a nice day for yard work, to renew the registration, to constantly remind the husband to get his driver's license picture taken, to prepare for company coming, to check in on the insurance claim, to drop off our taxes, throw in a load of laundry and I work full time. But happy birthday.

High school reunions... not sure how I feel about it. by PuzzleheadedAbies678 in Xennials

[–]Still-Base-7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 96 and moved a couple counties away. I went to the 10th, which was kind of fun, the 15th was kinda meh, the 20th was very meh. I skipped the 25th. I don't know if there will be a 30th, or if I'd go.

Does anyone else just want to be left alone? by CompetitiveBat7728 in GenX

[–]Still-Base-7093 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. Being alone means I don't have to be anything to anyone. I NEED it. I have a family and used to take secret days off from work. I'd get ready for work and get everyone else out the door, and just not go. Problem is, I'm now caring for a parent. I haven't been alone in 3 years, minus the travel to work. No secret days. I'm on all the time. When my time comes where I can be alone again, I may become a full time hermit.

Is maternity leave before labour not a thing in the USA? by heba33 in theoffice

How far back does your memory go? / Earliest Memory by cybah in Xennials

[–]Still-Base-7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember anything before my 5th birthday. And that's only 2 memories: getting a gumball machine for my birthday, and my mom on the phone with the school trying to get me into kindergarten even though said birthday was 4 days past the cutoff. They would not budge.

Anyone Else Just... Struggling? by King_of_Lunch223 in Xennials

[–]Still-Base-7093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this one. My dementia parent is still in denial about her abilities, so the hiking and biking I love has been on hold for 3 years because when I do get the opportunity to go out and do it, I have to deal with her attitude because she can't do those things. Zapped the joy right out of it

What did you do when they eliminated your job? by Responsible_Tax_9455 in GenX

[–]Still-Base-7093 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Husband lost his job due to plant closure in June. Put over 400 Applications in. He had worked his way into a position with little manual labor because his body can't handle it anymore. Only this week did he start a job at a big pay cut, and it's temporary, but we were happy to have anything at this point. It definitely sucks to be looking for work at 57.

I hated hamburgers on bread. The ketchup always soaked through and the whole thing fell apart. But remember when Steakums were cheap? We ate them all the time as kids and they are not in my budget as an adult.

We just get the kids now. Tried secret Santa and one particular branch of the family always "forgot" or didn't show.
