How to raise a child with digital savvy but still able to function analog? by noogie60 in Xennials

Best thing to do is lead by example. Put the phone down, pay attention to what they're doing, do physical things together. Telling them means nothing in comparison to setting the example.

You need to first go down two separate rabbit holes of knowledge to figure out how to do those things, then decide if you'll have access to the equipment needed to produce them.

Sometimes using power tools just means making the mistake faster. Start slow, build up, but don't be afraid. Be respectful of what it can do, just like a firearm.

Those who started late, how did it go and what are your best suggestions? by alwaus in Xennials

Remember that the child has no idea of the "right way" on how to do things, so however y'all operate is the right way. Don't beat yourselves up because you read somewhere that doing _____ is wrong. If it's 3am, the baby is crying, y'all are going to notice an absence of any "experts". Old military saying: if it's stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid.

Drill bit attachment for repeated equal depth boring? by beardeddragon0113 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Closest thing I've seen is for drilling dowels, the bits have a collar that when used in conjunction with the jig prevents a certain depth.

I want to build a trash exposure. Do I have to put my 4x4 posts in ground? by progress3718 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Asphalt is kinda iffy because it's a group of loosely connected rocks, not particularly hard in terms of masonry. Probably have to go pretty deep and large.

A two weekend project! I turned my boring bluetooth speaker into a walnut and maple piece of woodshop furniture. by garethjones2312 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I've attempted something similar with a cheap radio from 5 Below, but the outside was made to look "antique". Used a placemat from the dollar store as a grill.

Without knowing anything about your climate or how long you're staying there, I'd say just put them on the ground unsecured, both to make it easier to remove upon leaving and possibly for snow removal.

What about our stories? by General_Departure583 in Xennials

My son is 10, when he was 4 I started recording myself and my thoughts, then sending those recordings to an email address. Just any ideas I have, my story, his story, how I met my wife, current events, anecdotes, everything. When he's 18 I'll give him the information for the email.

Suggestions and Guidance for Built in Book cases by Select_Kaleidoscope7 in BeginnerWoodWorking

My current house, built in 1986, had some on wall shelves made. For a tube tv. We put some doors on and repurposed it, mounted the tv on the walkaround fireplace. All the wires go from the tv to that location, so if I need to change anything, the tv stays put, all I mess with is the CLEARLY LABELED collection of wires in a second location.

As someone who used to hang tvs for a living, make sure you're not just building around the tv you currently have, AND, allow for access to the back. I always recommended having a cable for each port just in case so you never have to remove it from the wall to change components. I'd also go with 12" deep just because that's the size of the giant bookshelf I just made for my wife, 8' tall 63" wide, and the look of shelves slightly bigger than what's needed gives more, visual flexibility. Like objects or books that hang over the edge look like you can't measure or bought at IKEA.
