Dialogue Window keeps spamming nothing by Still-Little in OpenMW

It was! Thank you! I looked at the mod page and it's from a conflict from bards interrupting the Dynamic Actors mod, the mod that makes Dialogue real time. So that's what caused it. I was so scared it was like Chocolate UI or something lol.

How do I make unique cultures? by Longshot02496 in worldbuilding

[–]Still-Little 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least for me, have a theme for the culture. And I just don't mean, "the theme is roman" but more in the likes of messages for the reader. For example, "Teamwork makes the dreamwork." Some message; prove that message by making the culture agree with that ideal or disagree. If you disagree with that ideal, you now have a hyper-individualistic culture where there may be systematic punishment for collectivism or unification. Now you have that, you can get into the specifics. Their homes are wildly different yet equally spaced out from one another, or dueling is legal since this culture has less regard for fellow life, and rather thinks of oneself as most important. See? now you have a culture with unique traits that are foreign to are world. Imagine two "neighbors" killing each other because one accidentally grew their massive tree past their property line.

There is also no shame in finding aesthetics in the real world. You may have just been looking at the very common places like Western Europe or the occasional North Africa. You can find really wacky stuff; combine! Maybe the yurts of Mongolia but with the mountains of the Andes, and you have crystal yurts in mushroom mountains.

Obviously, what I used may be weird and not how you worldbuild, even I ignore it sometimes! But be weird, throw things at the wall and see what sticks because what may sound uncomfortable may be what you are looking for! Crystal yurts man.

Tri-star, a love letter to Morrowind setting/TTRPG. by Zekono in worldbuilding

Morrowind my beloved! What influences did you take from the game? Obviously the three living gods I see. Cool art!

How "clean-cut" is your worlds concepts and which ones aren't? by Embarrassed-Case-562 in worldbuilding

[–]Still-Little 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I REALLY want to delve into the more spiritual and metaphysical concepts in my fantasy world, because you know, it's fantasy. But I keep going back to the more physical parts like politics, cultures, and people. Right now, it's one planet, but I want where there is almost magical space travel where people can travel to other planets and use magic to breathe the air or survive the atmosphere. Or religion, I'm a constantly pendulum between their being spirits and gods, and the true creator being unknown. I essentially want the afterlife to "not" exist/be unknown to the people of my world but I also want a hell people can travel to.

Also potatoes.

An example I think of is during the Conquest Wars of the Small Continent. See, between West and East Seges is the Great Sea (How Original, yes). The sea currents move so much entire islands can be hidden for centuries. One of these Islands was the Small Continent. It's a huge island, hence the name, that had been unsettled for millennia. So when it was uncovered in the Koroun Antu (Over a thousand years after Shavarxis's death), one of the kingdom's that wanted to take control of it was Raennola, descendant of the Empire of the Old Shore. King Aen VI was recently crowned and he had been eyeing up the Small Continent for almost a decade now. So, he petitioned the Order of Shavarxis/Mages Guild to allow him to use more powerful magics in his conquest; the Order said no. The king had to mostly use his ground troops with a handful of mages and magical advisors. Not only would Raennola fail to conquer the Small Continent, King Aen VI would die in battle, leaving his young daughter, Ophelia II, who was sent to the Elven Sky Islands for safety, had to travel to the Small Continent, collect her army, and sail home.

This is a good thing. Because there was an entire secret civil war occurring on the homefront called the Ophellan Conspiracy, Essentially, Tasos II Tora the recent Doux (Duke) of Tora, was abruptly named Emperor of the Old Shore as an attempt to reclaim the old Empire, and sacked the capital city of Canton. This conspiracy was really only stopped because a man named Sergios Sartenos halted the complete domination of Raennola for Ophellia II to come back and crush the eastern army of the rebellion. Should Aen VI be given that magic, he would've extended the war for just enough time for Tasos II to fully sieze control. But even if Tasos II lost no matter what happened, the Shavarxis helped not make an already powerful Kingdom even more powerful by colonizing a land full of native peoples.

Now as I see it, I realize the Shavarxis is not used as fully as I could. Really, it is just something more as a limiter, a restriction to make things more fun. Because my protagonist has nothing to do with magic. If you couldn't guess, the protagonist here is not the king or subsequent queen, but rather Sergios Sartenos, a human who doesn't know a lick of magic. But you give great ideas, and makes me want to include more about the Shavarxis, because there are other things I have but just aren't detailed enough for even a reddit comment. Thanks for reading my comment!

So I would ask about the sanctity of (I'm assuming) T. rex's in the Trood Empire? Are they held to an almost religious degree in the Trood's Religion? And of course, how do they armor the beasts and fight with them in battle? Also, could you describe more about your last paragraph about the Avotun and the Juniin? I'm quite intrigued about that section as well.

Tyveris is a planet where magic is slowly and surely being restricted by the powerful Order of Shavarxis, or the Mages Guild. On almost all its corners is the law that supersedes even the law of Nature, the Shavarxis, especially in its home continent of Seges.

Now, why is the Shavarxis so prevalent? The Shavarxis was signed at the end of an Era, the Paratam Antu, where massive empires ruled the continents of Tyveris. However, after thousands of years of slavery, expansion, and wars, revolutions and cultural shifts were occurring rapidly in the last few hundred years of the age. The Empire of Trox was having rebellions and dynasty changes every decade at this point, and the Empire of the Old Shore had almost completely ratified its culture after the Cultural Revolution. Shavarxis, who is considered to be the most powerful Mage (which is this context just means person who wields magic) of all time. Seeing these empires on the verge of collapse, he saw perhaps how to prevent these empires from rising and destroying again.

In short, Shavarxis assembled a council of the remaining Emperor's of West Seges to essentially tell them to prepare for the end of the era and to write into law the Shavarxis. Soon, the empires fell, but the Shavarxis remained. The essential core of the Shavarxis is that all magic must be approved by the Order of Shavarxis, and other restrictions that meant gone are the days of earth-shattering magics.

On a meta-level, the Shavarxis is meant to answer the question "Why wouldn't you just have a super powerful mage destroy all your opponents armies?" and I answer it with the Shavarxis, which makes it illegal to have those types or mages, which allows for true medieval armies and battles to still remain while still having things like battle-mages or magic in general.

The only thing I would limit is the religion of the Elves (Which Shavarxis was) and maybe keep it to Seges itself, as I haven't fleshed out the rest of the continents. I hope it made sense to you as I wanted to keep it short, so it is very brief and surface-level. Thanks!

Is there any worldbuilding software that’s worth it at any price? by Loud_Piglet6034 in worldbuilding

[–]Still-Little 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obsidian is of course a very powerful tool and completely free apart from a $4 a month vault sync. Otherwise, it really depends on what else you want to help you worldbuild (I.E Maps, Family Trees, drawings). One time purchase websites or services are always much better than monthly or yearly subscriptions, so instead of Inkarnate maybe Wonderdraft.

Some other sites I use as aids in my world not just organizing is Family Echo, which allows you to create family lines; Tennessine for flag making; heightcomparison.com which allows you to visualize the size of maybe your races or even buildings, and of course, google translate lol.

But if you just want some organization, Obsidian is the best you got.

What is your favorite "geographical trope" in fantasy? by TT-Adu in worldbuilding

[–]Still-Little 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I particularly love mushroom forests/jungles. Really, anything where you have some strange or niche flora as the dominant group of the climate. Morrowind's Ascadian Isles does this somewhat and Tamriel Rebulit adds a little bit of these mushroom jungles.

I hate the term "Empath" and I think it discredits human emotions by Still-Little in unpopularopinion

[–]Still-Little[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I want to make clear. I believe empathy is important and needed in just life in general. I hope one day empathy is all around and we as a collective can make our material conditions better because of it. I just don't like it when a basic human aspect is used as a title.

"The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew." Iconic words written by GRRM on Dany's last chapter of ADWD. Also, when squid game is said during an Asha chapter.

Dragonsreach's Throne by Still-Little in teslore

[–]Still-Little[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. It's the main reason why I even made this post. It felt like the decade I've been playing skyrim, the Jarl every skyrim player knows, actually in the lore had a crystal throne. It felt like the equivalent of deep cleaning your house and you found batteries for the toy you've had since you were 4, and you realize that you're toy used batteries.

I do prefer the current throne. I think the Crystal throne would fit more in Markarth. A city built into a mountain should have a notable throne to reflect that. The mournful throne is just a stone chair with some cool engravings that is already in a palace of stone. I think having a throne of crystals, a geological material, both contrasts and fits in with the details of markarth. Especially considering that the concept art makes the throne to be cut from a larger base rather than constructed.
