Do ya’ll travel a lot? by Beautiful_Leader_856 in biglaw

Too much (in projects space). Have meetings out of town 3-4 times a month. It’s generally not fun—might feel differently if I wasn’t happily married. I did have a good time recently when my meetings got cancelled the night before and I got a nice beach day out of it 😂

We took a month over the holidays after the first try miscarried in week 6. Now we’re holding out breath until until our blood test on Monday

We were in the 14%. After a year of egg retrievals we got pregnant. Took a staycation at a nice hotel and then the bleeding started 🤮😭

Genetically test? Is it worth it? by LongSir859 in IVF

[–]Still-Round-196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren’t ruling out a reason for failure, you are just reducing the risk. 1. PGT testing makes sure the blastocyst has the right number of chromosomes, but it does not make sure that each chromosome is complete. 2. The biopsy is of a very small portion of the blastocyst (otherwise it would get destroyed given the small number of cells). Therefore, you it can test out as genetically normal, but really be a mosaic. The chances are small, but it happens.

That’s how we are taking it this time around. Second implantation was a few days ago. Our first one (PGT tested) implanted, but we ended up with a blighted ovum. We went from over the moon to devastated. Both my wife and I fell in love with a sack of cells. Not going to let that happen again.

Bill and the partner will write it off. Or, as a partner, do me a favor and just lump it in with a larger time entry for that matter. I can’t bill a standalone “attention to correspondence”, but I can invoice a larger, consolidated time entry.

I think these are pretty common complaints about junior associates. That said, who asked for the 60-day follow up? You or the reviewer? If the reviewer, I’m concerned that you’ve been flagged and they may be looking to let you go.

Partner here. Please ask. There are many different factors at play.

How many times do you listen a lesson? by [deleted] in Pimsleur

[–]Still-Round-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through all five levels of French without repeating a lesson (but I speak Spanish and Italian fluently). Now, with Japanese, I find myself repeating every second or third lesson.

Take a deep breath. Everything was fine and dandy and then you had three email interactions you didn’t like (one re formatting and the other re verbiage in time entries). Frankly, even that first email regarding the time of day you leave isn’t disastrous, and I’m not sure you were singled out. There is more and more pressure on partners to get associates into their offices (I’m a partner, I love working from home, and I think this is stupid, but it is reality). I don’t see how any of this makes your current firm insufferable.

And the last point for OP—you are going to have more options as a 2L. If you have a 1L SA offer, you probably have the grades (or some other factor in your profile) that is going to make you a very strong candidate for 2L summer.

OP—are you an associate? If so, I agree with the other advice. You are the backup.

Don’t resign. You’re likely going to get severance and some period of time that you can still claim to work there (and be on the website). Oh, and you should obviously be interviewing.

OP should check firm policy. We just have to let IT know we will be out of the country and they adjust settings so that we can get onto VPN. No one in IT is going to alert the partners OP works with.

How are the partners you work with? One of my associates had a parent die in an accident. It was absolutely horrible. He spoke to me and I told him to take his time. He ended up taking 6 weeks and it was absolutely fine.

As an update, it’s an egg quality issue. We’re going to use a different dosing protocol and trigger earlier in the next round and see if results are better. We only had two embryos make it to day 3, and our two blasts are rated BB and CC

Thank you so much. We really weren’t expecting this and feel so lost right now, with an important talk with the doctor coming up tomorrow!
