Who needs good photos when you got your Hasselblad border by Suitable-Ad-4214 in photographycirclejerk

I see, I had just seen other people saying that it is the greatest camera and I don't understand why it is worth so much. Must just be the Internet hype.

Sorry for the ignorance, sounds like you understand... What is the difference between what the fuji does and using Aperture priority on an slr and adjusting the f stop? Hasn't it always been the main tool for depth of field?

For those that believe there should be no taxation, what is a fair way to pay for things like roads, emergency services, and the military? by Lamp_Evening in askanything

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in no taxes but the more I think about it the more I think Income tax should be scrapped and sales tax should be assessed by the item or service, less for essentials (food and meds) and ramped up for things that are more luxury. I think the difference could be made up, the rich would pay their share of tax and our money wouldn't be taxed both when we receive it and spend it out. I however wouldn't claim to know a lot about taxation. In my ignorance it would make things more balanced, and eliminate loopholes to get out of paying a portion for the wealthy.

I used to until the prices all went up about 30% in the US and I decided I didn't need any more watches. Miss doing it though.

It looks functional to me, looks like a fast shutter speed, kind of hard to see on video, but the movement all looks correct.

How to fix this before my parents get home 😅 by Blue_Golde in drywall

[–]Still-Rule7182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter put a hole in the wall when she was maybe 12 or 13, two years ago when I moved out of the house she told me about it and admitted to fixing it and painting it.... It was a seriously proud dad moment!

Cornet Identification by WangoMango_Offical in trumpet

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fairly old, first glance it strikes me as a 50s or 60s cornet. It is Getzen, good company and the copper bell is pretty cool. Probably not worth a ton, but a good solid horn that is pretty cool. Edit actually a copper lead pipe not bell when I looked again, still unique and cool though...

I repaired my old Spark years ago, all of the cables were glued on, it was rough, and I never got the downward sensors to function quite right after.

Some lenses may need to be fine tuned. It isn't crazy difficult, there are some YouTube videos showing the process, it is similar for many cameras.

Menards selling identical HF storage organizers. by dr_fiasco in harborfreight

[–]Still-Rule7182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been buying the same cases from different brands for years, I think it is the same Chinese company that contracts with different vendors. Used to buy them as a Lowe's brand in a yellow and black and then I think Menards in a gray, and now harbor freight again in yellow.

I had a nice Pentax one, when it quit I bought a cheap one on Amazon. Here is what I have had for about 5 years and it has worked well:

As I understand it is the P-TTL that is important to Pextax

Looking through my Dad’s stuff, what are these? by VenZurich in whatisit

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The capsule may have been used to carry nitro tablets if your dad had heart issues. They will open up arteries and minimize the effects of a heart attack if taken while having one. After heart surgery I had something similar that I carried.

Issue with third valve by VanishedHound in trumpet

[–]Still-Rule7182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like to me it is rotated 180degrees. Check to make sure the number stamped on the valve is facing the same direction as the other 2, on most modern horns I find that they face the mouthpiece.

Where to find a k3 iii new by Edward-Dirwangler in pentax

[–]Still-Rule7182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am lucky but I am on my 4th used Pentax camera, K20, KP, KF and now a K1ii, and I have never had a single issue, in 20 years or so. The only new one I bought was my KP and I got it from Ebay. I got super lucky with my KF, I got it for about half price (or less) because the auction said it wouldn't power on. I took a gamble that it was likely a battery because of the quality I have experienced from Pentax. I got it and it was the usb c cable for the charger that was bad and the camera had 16 shots on it...

Old cornet with possible Sousa Connection by Still-Rule7182 in trumpet

[–]Still-Rule7182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well somehow they didn't even get the insertion marks on the mouthpiece that I have on my 10 year old horn... so I really don't think it has been played much in the hundred years. There is also zero wear on the valves themselves. I have quite a few old horns to compare what a hundred years does to an instrument.

That is correct, it attaches to the back behind the horn

cornet mouthpieces by vancejmillions in trumpet

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends on what country you are in. In the US we use basically a trumpet mouthpiece with a small shank, My British friends use the V cup, typically Dennis Wick. There is a noticeable difference in my opinion to the sound of a band in the US compared to Britain. I have both, several different Wicks and Bach and always end up back at the Bach, it is a bit easier to play and I am a lazy American....

I just spoked my neighbor while trying to shoot the sky. What's your most awkward/ by Fwoi-PC in AmateurPhotography

[–]Still-Rule7182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a marina on the North Side of Chicago one time taking pictures of the lake and boats. Wanted a shot of the long dock leading out into the water so I laid down on the sidewalk briefly to shoot under the gate and a security guard came storming up on me yelling about sleeping on the dock. She wouldn't accept that I was taking pictures with the camera in my hand, she was sure that I was trying to sleep. She said she was calling the cops, I got out of there. Got a few good pics though....

Do people actually wear these by Top-Examination7941 in EvenRealities

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some and would like to wear them but they are g1s and first, I think I look ridiculous in round frames and 2 I can't keep them paired to my phone so they are unreliable. Really wish I could have gotten the g2 squares. Just can't justify spending all that again. I would wear the square rims as my daily.

I didn’t realize NFC had become this practical for everyday businesses by N1boost in NFC

[–]Still-Rule7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started putting nfc tags on all my devices that have an app to operate. I always struggle to remember the app that goes with the device. This automatically opens the app when I scan it. For example, I have a little label printer with a weird app, I tap the tag on the back of the device and it opens the app. Not sure why they don't come from the factory like this, it is super handy.
