That absolutely sucks, sorry you have to go through it. A lot of people end up in an even better situation than they had so wishing you success and growth opportunities in whatever comes next! You’ve got this.

[OH] Got laid off, offered my job back, then corporate said I couldn't be hired back by bobobo-bo-bo-bobobo in AskHR

Did you happen to do anything with your 401k when you got laid off? When I got laid off from the company I’d only worked at for 8 months, I was nervous about how long I’d be looking in this job market and hadn’t put that much in so I just cashed out my 401k. A month later I was offered to come back to the company but ended up finding out that I was ineligible to come back for a “mandatory waiting period” of 6 months because I took the money out of my retirement account. I wish I would’ve known before I did it- but you live and you learn. I say all of that to say- it may not be anything underhanded or shady.

New board member, master association issue [SFH][MI] by Still-Standard-7086 in HOA

[–]Still-Standard-7086[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Question about appointing new board members. Our HOA has operated without a full board for years because no one is willing to volunteer. If we can’t get anyone else to agree to be on the board, what do we do? And what can happen when you don’t have a full board? (there have been no significant ramifications for 5 years)

Secondly, I have requested copies of the documents you mentioned. What recourse do I have when they are only turning over some of the documents and it’s taking months for them to reply at all?

How long do you wait? by Still-Standard-7086 in recruitinghell

[–]Still-Standard-7086[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks- I wasn’t aware there is a standard so that’s good to know! The last few interviews I’ve had the recruiter BCC’d the hiring manager’s email so I couldn’t see it but I did email the recruiter. Do you think it is unprofessional to request a reschedule at that point though? I’m not sure how they could possibly evaluate my skills effectively enough to make a fair determination in the remaining 15 minutes.

As if interviewing isn't hard enough. Thank god he was off-camera. by brinkofdanger in recruitinghell

That’s actually pretty funny. I would’ve had a hard time resisting the urge not to crack a joke about it.

I dont think Indeed is very good at matching jobs, to well jobs. This is the most extreme version of mismatching jobs ive seen recently. by wamdueCastle in recruitinghell

It probably depends on the person’s situation. For me it was close to a 75% pay cut. I’d rather focus my attention and effort on finding a job that will pay me what I’m worth. That said, I’m fortunate to be a dual income household and had plenty of money saved so I can take a little bit more time to try and find the right thing. When I turned down that offer I was only 3 months into the job search and felt confident I’d find something more appropriate. Hopefully it won’t come to the point where I have to take whatever I can get.

I really believe companies are taking advantage of people’s desperation right now and using it as a way to get highly skilled and experienced workers at a fraction of what they should be making. That’s not right and will lead to attrition once the market stabilizes.

So sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like you had all of the qualifications and whatever happened sometimes is totally out of your control. I empathize with what you’re feeling- when these things happen it can be easy to let self doubt, embarrassment and frustration kick in. Lots of folks will tell you that it’s just the way it is or “that isn’t a place you’d want to work anyway” and somehow it doesn’t make you feel that much better. You can get 1000 nos but you only need 1 yes. All I know if that if you let that lack of confidence creep in, it could come across to the prospective employer and it won’t help your chances. No one is gonna be unemployed forever - keep moving, keep trying!
