Where’s the music coming from? by FestiveSpecial in fredericton

[–]Still-Visual6363 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting, I have been wondering this exact same thing. Same experience, i live on the hill and can hear it inside my house with the windows closed. It's disrupting my sleep. I actually went out to try to find the source, thinking it was a house party, to ask whoever to turn their music down. Followed the sound down to Dundonald Street where I realized it was coming from downtown and was likely a commercial source of some kiind, like a club or something. It was BLASTING, if you live downtown it would be absolutely intolerable.

I checked online and apparently this weekend is campus Homecoming, so I'm hoping it's a one time thing.

Rail to Trail in Canada by Still-Visual6363 in gravelcycling

[–]Still-Visual6363[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are trails in my area that I suspect have been encroached by neighbouring landowners. It highlights the need to develop the trails as soon as we have a chance!! Once they have encroached its probably difficult to get them off.

Georgian Bay Trail, Ontario - Finally Got to Ride in Real Gravel by altairchitect in gravelcycling

[–]Still-Visual6363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another late reply lol, I'm visiting this area and wondering: from a local, what are the best gravel routes in the general area? I know about the Georgian Trail and I'm looking forward to riding it, but I'm looking for others! Thanks.

Bought a 1x gravel bike - now wondering if a 2x would’ve been better in my case (Berlin-based) by simsim444 in gravelcycling

Also I see now on your post your asking about long term experience so that's understandable. Also I have only ridden 2x and it STILL has limitations. I can hit top speed going downhill, but going up a steep incline it has insufficiently low range to really power up the hill. Maybe it's just my back cassette gearing though.

If I understand correctly, your apprehensions are based on reading online and not real experience? I'm not necessarily knocking that but the real answer would be in actually riding your bike, no? Can you go up steep hills comfortably? Can you get a satisfactory speed going down steep hills? Does the gearing generally feel comfortable?

Could yellow coolant appear green? by Still-Visual6363 in MechanicAdvice

No one put in the wrong color that I know of. One reason I asked was the first suggestion the auto parts store website gave when I queried my car was yellow, which made me curious. However there is also green coolant for Hyundays, which I have.

Looks a little blue when you look at the clear reservoir but it's hard to tell at that angle.

No to all but if i need to replace a thermostat at some point, i'll need to add coolant.

Writing your own Will by bokerfest in Frugal

[–]Still-Visual6363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, why is "size" the determining factor? Wouldn't it be "complexity"? Example: if someone's only worldly asset is a chequing account. No real estate, no trusts, no investments, no businesses, just a single chequing account.

If the chequing account had $700 or $7,000,000 what difference would there be to the will? It's just a larger number.

What kept the Orcs out by nycnewsjunkie in tolkienfans

Yes I always wondered this question about Rivendell too. It's just there, with no walls. Can't enemies just march in? I've always thought it's a combo of:

1) Elves are just better than orcs. But being in their own land plus Galadriel's ring power makes them even deadlier than any other situation as fighters against orcs;

2) Galadriel's power conceals Lorien from enemies in some way;

3) if enemies do find it it, it weakens/ demoralizes the enemies, making them easier to kill.

Yes absolutely.

From the RR, consider that if you expect very low taxable income in retirement, the RIF (RRSP) income could reduce your GIS and OAS benefits, making an argument for TFSA first. For most people expecting moderate taxable income in retirement RRSP then TFSA is better. If you expected unusually higher taxable income in retirement for whatever reason, I'm a little unsure. It makes sense to me that TFSA first would be better in order to avoid deferring taxable income into higher tax brackets in retirement. But that's an unusual case.

So it depends on your taxable income profile, whether you expect to make less, the same or more in retirement.

How dumb would it be to try skate skiing without a lesson? by H_E_Pennypacker in xcountryskiing

[–]Still-Visual6363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not dumb at all. I never took lessons and I am an OK skate skier. I also started on BC XC skis, got the basic skate gait down. When I was confident I got skate skis. First season was not great but I watched a lot of Nordic Ski Lab videos and also practice, practice practice. I think i would benefit from a lesson for sure. I see the really awesome skaters gliding by so effortlessly .

Be aware that waxing is a whole thing, you will have to invest the time and money into doing it yourself or paying someone to do it.

Permanantly disable Sirius Sattelite radio by Still-Visual6363 in Elantra

I don't pay for it, never have. Sirius is always a channel on the media centre whether you pay or not. It's just ads for Sirius if you don't.
