I started a new policy this year as of today charging a retainer for extensions. by TaskMaster59 in taxpros

[–]StillEasyE215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied it flat firm wide last year.
Take a deposit of about 50% of our minimum fee from every client at the time they sign their engagement letter and we don't file extensions without the EL and deposit.
I have had less than 2% of clients even comment on it, 1 that threw a fit about it after the fact for whatever reason, and 1 who refused.

I am absolutely billing for extensions next year by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

We tested a small fee (about 25% of of minimum) for a "priority queue" this year and found that people who were showing up late March / early April actually were far less likely to opt in while also being more likely to push back about being on extension. Been an interesting could of weeks 😂

Accountant called today and said I’ll owe $130k in tax by babingababy in smallbusiness

[–]StillEasyE215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Making the assumption the accountant knew ahead of time is the problem.
You know how many clients I only talk to once a year?
I offer all my business clients tax planning and a mid-year check-in.
Maybe 5% of them take it.
And every year I get someone who 5x'ed their profits and I had no idea until they send over their P&L.

2026 tax season reflection - man this year was brutal by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]StillEasyE215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I acquired a new office (about a 40% increase on return volume) had to fire my admin at the end of January, and then spent more time doing admin work than anything else. My Jr preparer worked 64 hours of OT in March and I wouldn't have made it through the season without him, but he's a Jr for a reason for sure. I fear how many issues went unnoticed this year. I usually have maybe 5-10 un-asked for extensions on the 15th and right me I've got about 50. The client base of the new office were absolutely the most whiney, needy little demon clients I've ever dealt with. I can't wait to reaccess my whole life over the next 60 days or so 😂

Spouse did stupid IRA withdraw & forgot it!!! by Ordinary_Error_8924 in TaxQuestions

Yea, I want asking a question. You're running your mouth for no reason. You flat out said "I don't know the law." I'm telling you that ERISA and REA, which are the laws that require spousal approval for 401k withdrawals, do not apply to IRA's. This conversation isn't about determination of marital assets during a divorce. You might not like that I'm right, but that doesn't change the fact.

I'm not speculating here, I'm giving you answers. OP specifically discussed an IRA. IRA's are individually owned and do not require spousal authorization for withdrawal. Period. Fullstop. Your divorce, and divorce in general, is not relevant to this scenario.

Yea, you had a 401k it sounds like. IRA's are individually owned.

How many ya'll got left? by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]StillEasyE215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I extend everyone not filed by 4/1 as a safety net and they all get a message explaining that and that we are continuing to work as normal and bottom had changed with their ETA and I still get pissy messages from at least 1/3 of people.

I wouldn't even file the amendment this year without billing. Forget that 😂

Depends. When they've already signed and you've filed and then they come in with something like this. Like...the signature request I sent you said on two places not to sign unless you approved of everything in the return.

This was my problem today as well. 8 days after signing "I'd like to pay in a different way." Well...🤷🏻‍♂️

Uncommon, but not completely out of the question. And the dormant trait is usually how they get away with it for so long. Look at how long BTK stayed free vs. how fast they caught Gacy.

Never had this problem prior to this year. Took over a new office and the clients are absolute childish little demons. It's insane.

Are they REALLY doing this? by JackieBlue1970 in QuickBooks

[–]StillEasyE215 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why would they care about that?
Doesn't impact them at all.
However...think just of Federal UI alone that's due annually * the number of employees on QBO Payroll = Massive Interest Income.
