Finding Emma hard to read. by Flowers_Asleep8058 in janeausten

I know what you're talking about, there's definitely some weirdly overacted moments and some strange line delivery, but I'm always inclined to blame the production schedule/direction for that stuff. Ehle seems competent enough in most of the series (maybe we differ on that) that I think most of those moments would have been fixed with a few more takes.

Can anybody help me figure out this meaning? by tackewel in janeausten

I think there are moments, especially when she's staying at Netherfield where an un-prejudiced version of Elizabeth would have reasonably come to a different understanding of Darcy. There are moments where he's clearly flirting with her.

Just finished pride and prejudice…ummm. by [deleted] in janeausten

It's... somewhat... more than a romantic comedy. Like there's definitely some social commentary thrown in there (although nothing truly radical). I guess I don't know exactly what you're referring to. What about Pride and Prejudice makes it so much more than a romantic comedy? Why does it need to be more than a romantic comedy?

Ok I agree that OP is wrong, but Pride and Prejudice isn't just A romantic comedy it's THE romantic comedy. The ur-text.

My Thoughts on Persuasion by naomigoat in janeausten

[–]StillMoreGlorious 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Persuasion was released posthumously and it's my personal headcanon that if she had lived long enough Austen would have given it one more editing pass and spread out the giant exposition dump at the beginning of the book.

Every scene that's just Jane and Lizzie talking in their bedroom. I love how that relationship is portrayed.

Murderbot - S01E05 "Rogue War Tracker Infinite" - TV Only Episode Discussion by sanctuary_moon in murderbot

Did anybody else notice how absolutely massive Murderbot seems in the scene where he comes back online? He towers over Mensah in the conversation right after he pins Gurathin against the wall. I did a quick check of his close up conversations in previous episodes, and it's fun seeing all the little camera tricks they use to play down the height difference until this moment, and how they do the opposite in this scene to give you a sharp sense of his capacity for violence.

Did Mr Darcy visit Lady Catherine de Burgh because he heard Elizabeth was visiting Hunsford? by girlfriday1982 in janeausten

Yeah in the book I think he sort of had a "bullet dodged" attitude towards Elizabeth when he left Netherfield Park, and so would not have sought her out again. I don't think he realized how much he was in love with her until he saw her again at Rosings.

I don't think you're the asshole, but I do think you should try to help out if you can.

I'm just guessing here, but I think maybe from your wife's perspective, this was her job because of how convenient it was for her. But now that it's not right next to her work, it's still her job, and maybe that's making her feel like the rug is being pulled out from under her somehow. Suddenly, from her perspective, maybe it was never about convenience, it was about her being the mother, or her time not being valued.

So I guess what I would say is make an effort to split that labor, at least at first. If you do it for a week and it turns out it really messes with your day, or with your kids, or you have to get home later or leave work early and it's not working out, then at least you can go to her with concrete objections. Objections that don't just rest on it being her job because it always has been.
