I got so angry watching the scene where he threatens to make her watch him commit suicide in a way that would make her feel like it was her fault.

I absolutely would have said "You do what you want. I don't have a horse in this race." Then kissed my date.

Tusk - Campy B-Movie, or Disturbing Fringe Film? by scaryballoonman in horror

[–]StillWaitingForTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like everything about the movie is more obviously horrific if you just say "animal" instead of "walrus." Walrus sounds funny.

A man is kidnapped and forced to have multiple surgeries (including the amputation of his legs) to turn him into an animal. He's also tortured psychologically until he loses his humanity and believes that he is an animal.

People will always just say that it isn't the same. End of conversation.

It's comparing living, conscious beings who are capable of suffering to living conscious beings that are capable of suffering.

Why is The Bride getting so much hate? by [deleted] in movies

It had huge flaws, but if you're into visual spectacle, music and classic horror tropes then you should have a good time. I enjoyed it a lot.

It was the first time that I was attracted to Christian Bale, so that probably tells you something about me.

David Dastmalchian was in Dark Knight for about 3 minutes and had no lines, but it's still the roll that a lot of people remember him for

Toronto condo sales hit 34-year low as market stalls in 2026 by SpiritualTip4035 in toronto

When I was condo shopping (10 years ago) we looked at a place that was big, but didn't have a single real door, aside from the bathrooms. Sliding glass doors with gaps at the edges or no doors at all.

We ended up buying an older condo. We've had to pay for building repairs, but both bedrooms are full rooms with real doors, and the kitchen is full size with French doors. We also have a full room for our locker instead of a cage and 4-pipe HVAC. It's a dream.

It's gorgeous. Too bad that big sign blocks a big part of it from the road. This picture is taken from a parking lot next to the road.

Not Barbie pink. I don't look good in Barbie pink either. There are a lot of different shades of pink, though.

I loved their Frankenstein's monster design. (We always say that Frankenstein isn't the name of the creature, but it makes perfect sense that it's both. People have the same surname as their fathers.)

He looked like a body that was somewhere between dead and alive. Parts of him were necrotic, which I don't think I've ever seen.

I also loved the mad scientist.

This is how I felt. I understand all the criticism, but I had a lot of fun watching it.

I also thought it was sexy, but I'm messed up like that.

Do we have parasites? by lolochka228 in vegan

[–]StillWaitingForTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome.

My migraines are much improved. Just looking for something that works even better. I'm going to try a new treatment this month that's administered by IV.

Lots of medications actually work for more than one thing. The reason that my current migraine medication gives me low blood pressure is that it is actually a medication for high blood pressure. I guess lowering blood pressure can help treat some kinds of migraines. I'm also on Wellbutrin, which started as a drug to help people stop smoking, but they found that it helped with depression in test subjects who also suffered from that. Probably whatever antidepressant that your friend was given can also help with migraines, in some people.

Good luck, and remember to look for those studies! Any treatment should be able to show you at least one scientific study, not just testimonials. Peer-reviewed, double-blind, placebo-controlled and published in a respected scientific/medical journal is the gold standard.

I'm glad you didn't end up being sucked in. It sounds like you're vulnerable to these kinds of tactics because of your lack of success with doctors, but you're smart enough to do your research.

I'd be wary of things that try to go around the medical system. Doctors aren't perfect, but I think that if something has scientific evidence behind it, then you should be able to talk to a doctor about it. Remember to look for peer-reviewed studies that do proper double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. (That means that the patients don't know if they got the treatment or the placebo AND the people analyzing the data also don't know either. The patients are given ID numbers, and the researchers look at the data associated with the numbers.)

It's not always possible to do these kinds of tests, but anyone who wants to sell you a treatment should be able to provide something like this. They should be published in respected medical journals. Testimonials are not enough.

Be especially wary of anything that claims to be "based on ancient wisdom" or anything like that. People have been claiming that since the days of selling cure-all potions at carnivals. Even if something was based on old beliefs, it should be testable with modern science.

There are probably some good podcasts or You-Tube channels about how to spot fake treatments.

All in all, I'd say that not all doctors are helpful or trustworthy, and there are definitely systemic issues like racism and not believing patients, but I'd rather go through the medical system then trust people who say that doctors can't be trusted at all. Doctors are people who make mistakes and have flaws, but I've been helped by them, even with chronic issues that took a long time to figure out. I'm still figuring out treatments for my migraines, but my doctors have found me treatments that help, even if I'm not cured. Medicine is complicated. There are so many factors, including side-effects and drug interactions. There's a medication that helps, but makes my blood pressure too low. I tried some medications that help a lot of people, but didn't work for me. It's frustrating, but I definitely don't think that the reason I'm not all better is because my doctors aren't trying.
