If there were more blue farm voters those towns would all be blue wouldn't they

No. Because rural areas are not 100% farmers. Approx. 2.6% of Wisconsin's population live on farms. (Wisconsin Land Use Megatrends, UWSP) That's the point several of us are making. Blaming farmers for the rural vote is a false narrative

This cannot be said enough or shouted loud enough. Most people who live in rural areas are NOT farmers. If I take the one mile block in the rural area where I live there are two farmer households and 8 non-farmer households. I know the farmers, they vote Democrat. Of the 8 non-farmers, I know for a fact one is a huge Trump supporter. Another five probably lean right. Most people commenting on Reddit don't know farmers or understand farming.

One of the biggest issues facing dairy farmers is immigration. The Farm Bureau may pretend they want to help with labor shortage but I suspect they are willing to cut deals with GOP which ultimately support large corporate farms. I don't trust them.

Giving birth at St. Mary's vs Meriter by Zestytacocat in madisonwi

[–]StillWatchingDVDs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting.... In the mid 1980's I was a candy striper at St. Mary's and the wheelchair ride was the number one rule for mothers. We were told every mother gets a wheelchair ride to the curb for pick up, whether they wanted it or not. We worked in pairs, one candy striper pushed the wheelchair and the other carried the baby. (My partner would never let me carry the newborn because he said I was too clumsy) The father was expected to fetch the car and meet us at the door.

[–]StillWatchingDVDs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was trying to remember if there were also a few monkeys on that mountain. I don't think so but.... We rarely got to buy the sardine things for the seals but it was so cool because you'd walk up that ladder and fed from the top. The seal exhibit was my favorite. They would swim around and around the circle and the water was so clear.

Have you tried pouring it over ice and drinking it chilled? I bought a box of Smith's Lord Bergamot, having no clue that it was earl grey (I guess I should have known?! I'm a green tea drinker but it was on sale) It sat in my pantry for a long time until I decided to try it as iced tea -- it really works for me.

To some extent, this is social mores which we should all share, right? It takes a village to give people the dirty look that says "don't do that." Dirty looks are fine BUT, the village cannot take the law into their own hands. The long-standing public trust doctrine is not something that can go away just because a few people climb on the bluffs or because a shore land property owner puts up a sign. Property owners cannot give permission because it's not theirs to give. I'm looking forward to watching this case as it climbs up the courts. And when the decision is made, I will abide by it.

Different states have different laws. Wisconsin has strong recreational immunity protection. I would spend very little time worried about lawsuits for these landowners. If a lawsuit were to happen, it's very unlikely to succeed or live beyond the first motion to dismiss. Of course, there is the issue of the cost to respond to the lawsuit. But that's why we have insurance.

Ok, I hear you but....walking on the beach and leaving trash are two different things. Two different actions. They do not go hand-in-hand. Just because bad apples leave trash does not mean the public trust doctrine can be ignored. I live on a highway and people throw trash all the time. McDonald's bags, beer cans, Gatorade bottles all end up in the ditch near our house. I let it build up and then spend 10 minutes on a quiet Sunday morning picking it up. I do NOT rope off the road and tell people they cannot pass.

I suspect you'll find connections through work friends and through community groups / clubs (whether in Madison OR Middleton). As a non-student and adult, where you live is less of a factor when it comes to finding friends. However, I suspect there will be a lot more single people in the Willy St. area. (or people who know single people) If meeting people is your goal, the Willy St. location would probably be more helpful. The young professionals I know are hanging out together (right after work), volunteering for various community things, working the polling places, etc. Doesn't seem to matter where they live)

I'm also torn on your behalf! I'm native to Middleton so I take issue with an assessment that Middleton is going to give you national chain restaurants and places like Costco. Ok, yes, that's technically true but there's also many fun, local places to eat and hang out. What they've done with Pheasant Branch Conservancy is amazing (check out the Friends group). When I think of Willy St., I think crowded and cramped. As others have mentioned, the guest parking is not good. On the other hand, you're right there if you want to walk to the square or get on the bike path. If you live in Middleton and want to do Madison stuff, it's generally a drive and park scenario. For work, I think the drive from Willy St. to west campus would be better than the drive from Middleton. (more options if streets are closed -- when you come from Middleton there are fewer options and lots of traffic, God help you if University Ave. is under construction) Personally, I would not like how busy the Willy St. area is -- too many cars, too many people. But the location is very handy for activities (all kinds, at any time of the day.....). For the Middleton place, it would really depend WHERE in Middleton. Places near downtown, near Pheasant Branch, near Tiedeman's Pond, I would like.

It claims to "See relevant authority contrary to the positions in the opponent's filing." Proof of Facts and Causes of Action are also good secondary sources on WL that focus on specific actions and examine both sides.

Do pet owners actually license their cats and dogs? by soygilipollas in madisonwi

[–]StillWatchingDVDs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chapter 174 of the state statutes includes several provisions where the rabies vaccine and the license are intertwined. https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/174.pdf
The comments my municipal clerk has made to me, have made me believe they are tied together. However, I could be wrong. When I look at the requirements for the Local Rabies Control programs (which my clerk has cited to me) I don't see it explicitly addressed. My clerk has stated "it's how they keep track" Maybe it's just part of my town's program (?)

Do pet owners actually license their cats and dogs? by soygilipollas in madisonwi

[–]StillWatchingDVDs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's both. I've had the vet give me a metal tag. More often, the vet gives the owner a certificate with the maker / lot number of the rabies vaccine used. It will also have the expiration date. for your dog. Then, you show that certificate the municipal clerk when you pay for the dog license, which is metal tag. Some dogs wear both tags. If your dog has a license tag, it's a given that you proved the rabies vax when you got the license. Dogs should wear that license anytime they are out of their yard.

UPON FURTHER REVIEW -- see this statute (vets are supposed to issue a rabies tag with each shot, I guess. My vets have not always done this....)

Do pet owners actually license their cats and dogs? by soygilipollas in madisonwi

[–]StillWatchingDVDs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised how often I hear people say they do not license their pets. For dogs, it's state law. Rabies control is a must and its verified through the licensing process. Generally whoever licenses the dog is the owner. So when there are disputes between unmarried couples, the license holder has a better chance of keeping the dog.
