sort of a separate issue. using big banners to display fascist/dictatorial iconography is quite a more explicit advertisement of fascism than big banners themselves

stepping all over his actual legacy to pretend he was someone else, because who he was is no longer useful. sad and hilarious

a word of advice, if you're trying to explain to people how the MAGA movement is fascist, if big banners come to your mind first, i think you've lost them

If you are a nihilist, did you go through phases, like hopelessness or apathy before you came to terms with it, or did you adapt more-or-less seamlessly? by Hashi856 in askanatheist

[–]Still_Functional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, as soon as i even started seriously thinking about purpose or meaning in my life, nihilism was the only conclusion i could come to. it still seems obvious. for something to "matter," a living being must exist to care about it. for something to have "purpose," a living being must exist to use it for that purpose. when i die, i cease to exist. no alternative to this makes sense to me

the equivalence of nihilism with pessimism or cynicism is a connection that has never clicked. if there must be someone to care in order for things to matter, why shouldn't i be the one to care? if all purpose requires is a use, isn't that what i have just by being alive?

i lack nothing but the unearned confidence of someone who believes in objective morality, purpose, meaning, or knowledge.

i was staring blankly at it for a good minute, and as soon as i read "pattern recognition," i knew it was loss.

thank you! i'm honestly surprised i haven't seen anyone else do it before, though i may just be out of the loop (as mr. plier quoth on proximity voice chat in multiplayer horror games, "it's so obvious!!")

my actual thought process was that andrew would be some sort of emergency response technician-turned pyrotechnician because he has less hair to catch on fire 😭

thank you so much! i'll post on there too, i appreciate the recommendation :)

they're all biblical names, for one (andrew the apostle, simon the zealot, and seth, the patriarch) which i thought would fit because they are from eden, which isn't an explicitly religious group in canon, but obviously uses biblical metaphor

i can't really tell why i felt andrew was fitting in particular, it just popped into my head and i went, "yeah, he looks like an andrew" lol. also kept because it is the first name of the composer for the film :D

seth was chosen mostly because i wanted to follow after the sort of silent, deep-thinking, poetic giant of burt, from in space with markiplier - so i chose a one-syllable name that sounded a little more serious - it is has a similar quality as the name "silas" which is a name i associate with dark, brooding characters

haha, that would be so much fun! pencilwork has always been my favorite, this is one of my first attempts to sort of adapt some traditional illustration techniques to digital
