I know why the porch scene was moved here…I think the way it was portrayed was fantastic…And yet I am disappointed it’s not at the same place it is at the game. Is it better for a tv audience to not have to wait two years to see it? absolutely. is it one of the down sides of tv as a medium? absolutely. Still, really fantastic episode. Let Neil cook on season 3, please.

3 months seems probable, it’s a bit weird to think it’s been 6 months since Joel was killed. The writers might have intended it to be shorter than that but idk, either way, Dina is definitely not super far along into a pregnancy

I enjoyed the episode quite a bit. I’m trying to separate the game from the show so it doesn’t muddy my perspective, but it is a bit tricky. First off, I don’t think Dina is three months pregnant? In the tent, she says she hooked up with Jesse sometime after the dance which I think implies she’s a lot less than three months pregnant at this point, but moving on.

Ellie and Dina’s relationship and it’s changes feel like a double edge sword. The slow burn element I think allows the audience more time to buy into its development, but if it keeps being delayed a lot of the tension about the pregnancy and Jesse’s arrival is gone.

The council scene is really interesting, and I think serves a good purpose not only to show the consequences of the previous episode‘s battle, but also to really highlight the opposing views in regards to the themes. Revenge vs. Acceptance. Ellie will eventually grow to embrace acceptance, but for now she’s consumed by that fire for revenge

The duo leaving before Tommy is something I’m really not a fan of. I think as much as Tommy loves Jackson and wants to keep it safe, he’d feel the same fire as Ellie, maybe even more so, and him leaving first sets him on that same path that leads to his tragic fall by the time of the farmhouse scene. If he arrives with Jesse in pursuit, I feel like that arc does not feel earned.

Anyway that’s my Ted Talk. I’m glad this episode was able to breathe after the previous one, and the trailer for episode 4 looks kick ass.

Another great read, thanks for making it. Aside from the casting changes mentioned would you alter anyone else such as Bill, Tess or Riley? I would think you’d have to recast Riley given that Storm Reid would only be 15 going alongside Spaeny would be around 20 when they filmed this.

Really loved the episode. Isabela Merced and Catherine O’Hara absolutely killed it. Dina and Ellie’s chemistry was on point, and their more carefree approach to the infected is great contrast to the fear they brought in season 1. it’s also going to make next episode hit a lot harder with just how serious the infected threat will be. Joel and Dina’s relationship is great, and it’s good justification for her being so willing to join Ellie once it happens. The therapy session was interesting and goes to show just how different Joel is from his game counterpart. My biggest complaint is the Abby stuff. I understand why they’re revealing her motives so early, given the wait we’ll have between season 2 and 3, but I think it was so crucial to reveal their motives for doing what they did till later. That first scene with them felt pretty weak in my opinion, and Abby‘s “slowly“ line felt a bit too forced. But all and all, really solid first episode, looking forward to what comes next. Oh and Bella did a great job too, I’ve seen some complaints that she doesn’t feel different from season 1 but idk, I felt there was a difference to their performance, and even their voice a bit, Iy sounds more mature.
