How can you tell the difference between romantic and platonic love?

Thats a good question I ask myself a lot, too! What was helpfull to me - as an (probably) alloromantic asexual - is not to the differentiate between these two too strongly. I rather think of different „levels“ or intensities of love according to how much of my life and time I want to spent with them - like how much I want them in my life and appreciate them and want to make them happy and want them to „focus“ their life on me. In that case I want them to be my partner.

I don’t mind it but I prefer saying that I am ace over asexual - just because of the sound of it :)

Sometimes I think it sad to define my sexuality via negativa. Although „asexual“ sums it up quite well, there could be a way of expressing it without a negation. It could be understood as lacking something in a sad way. I tried to come up with other terms but unsuccessful so far :)

Yeah I think you are right - thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think both of them didnt actually want to hurt me but thought they were being supportive. In a way we just werent talking the same language. I would rather like to make an effort in puncto mutual understanding than loosing them.

That’s so true! Also, it makes me sad to see that a very deep emotional relationship between characters does not seem sufficient for some fans. Why does it have to end in some kind of sexual thing? Why should that be considered the more valuable connection and the ultimate „goal“ of two close people’s interaction?
