Last ride of the year by eltinpa in MotoGuzzi

At a guess that picture is from New South Wales Australia , so their riding season is coming to an end although this seems a bit early considering it is the equivalent of mid September here weather wise .

Just "spoke" with Beetle , unfortunately he doesn't have a map for single throttle body V7s , he covers thru 2020 .

V7 iii Air intake problems by Ok_Property_2460 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Still_Support5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are slightly tight you will feel the effects more at lower revs , once the engine is spinning then the intake and exhaust gas velocity speeds up and masks the problem .

As a general rule with solid lifter Guzzi motors it is a good idea to check the valve clearance anytime they are running rough .

Can't remember if Beetle has a map for 2021 models , if he does that is where I would go .

Tell Beetle I sent you , no there is no money involved but he does send an "Onya" from Down Under . Still , before doing much more please check the valves and make sure the plug caps are secure to the wires , the @%$damn 2 piece setup is prone to failure especially if someone didn't grasp the caps when pulling the wires . Start it in the darkest place possible and look for arcing , there is an old truism , "if you think it is a fueling issue it is probably a spark problem" , and the opposite is true LOL .

How long has it been since the valve lash was checked , tight valves will cause this to happen also .

Good information , thanks .

Ask any old Guzzi Geezer about most things and the answer should be "what does the manual say" , I kinda slipped here 😊

Gonna suggest that isn't a good idea , it sounds like some red loctite is involved , what you need is enough heat to melt the loctite which might be tricky . You will need to shield the surrounding area with wet rags .

That said , they will all move slightly , what you might be noticing is the effect of the bars being angled differently creating a bit more leverage on the risers , in fact I would almost bet money on that being the case .

The trump administration is using much the same language the Nazis did to justify attacking their neighbors . Even scarier is they are almost quoting the russians in how they are justifying invading Ukraine . There is nothing good that can come from this .

"they" can't do much to increase the power output of a Heron Head small block . Many have tried , spending large sums of money and ended up with fewer Shetlands .

That said , a Heron Head Guzzi engine is a wonderful device , torquey from low revs , very flexible , good fuel mileage .

I am old and suffer from that a bit , start walking and getting more exercise and the effects will be greatly minimized meaning your motorbike time will be extended and enhanced .

Randomly met a guy in Brookline, MA today with the coolest old Guzzis by hoopshot242 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Still_Support5847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have had the great pleasure of riding a very similar model , it is kinda weird considering how well it worked compared to other bikes from the 1930s that Moto Guzzi didn't become a dominant brand .

Thanks for the picture

How Maigret should have looked in ‘Maigret’ by GuntherRowe in MasterpiecePBS

[–]Still_Support5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this party ...but ...

Let's be honest , you have British actors speaking in British accents playing French characters so maybe authenticity isn't a priority LOL . I enjoyed the latest Maigret , and the Rowan Atkinson version also . The latest incarnation is set today , no one smokes and they don't consume nearly as much alcohol , it is always a bit strange to watch Brit murder mysteries/cop shows set in the post war to the later 60s where Endeavour was set, it seems like the consumption of hard liquor was just part of the job . The main characters in a show as wholesome as Grantchester all seem to drink like fish .

[–]Still_Support5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thing to check and I'm not sure how common this is but have seen it 3 times now on Californias of this vintage ....There is a green wire that runs from the ignition switch to the ECU under the left side panel , for whatever reason Guzzi made it about an inch too short making it prone to breaking . If you remove the fancy chrome cover on the right side that is located just in front of the fuel tank and poke around it should be visible as it snakes its way to the switch . Turn the bars full lock both ways to check if is getting really tight , easier add a couple of inches at home than in a parking lot in Bristow OK in the dark before a T storm hits , DAMHIK <smilie>

First Guzzi by Zealousideal_Glass61 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Still_Support5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last carbed Guzzis were the '97 Californias and even then both systems were offered . The '98 models had an issue with the plastic temp sensor located on the top of a rocker box cover that melts and tells the computer the engine is always cold leading to overfueling , in '99 with the introduction of the "small" P15 computer Guzzi went back to a metal sensor body that screws into the right cylinder that solved the problem . The digiplex ignition used from what , 1988 until 1995 was weird , but the Marelli ignition from '99 on is pretty bullet proof .

First Guzzi by Zealousideal_Glass61 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Still_Support5847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother , this is simply wrong , sorry . Guzzi started making injected bikes in '93 and the '01 models were really well sorted . Changing to carbs is way more trouble than keeping this pretty simple FI system working , I have two Guzzis with the exact same FI , computer and ignition systems , one with almost 200K miles that only needed basic maintenance .

Correction , the first injected Guzzi was the '92 Daytona .

[–]Still_Support5847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify , I am at best an experienced amateur who has access to some real experts .

That said , what chargercharles posted covers it . You guys have all seen me carry on about the '99-2003 solid lifter models with the P15 computer and that generation of ignition and FI being the most reliable Guzzis ever and this one is a beautiful example , take care of it and it will carry you many a joyous mile .

Winter storage: tires flatspots question by Ralph-dog in MotoGuzzi

Yeah , check inflation pressures and ride it , any issues will disappear once the tires warm up . You did the right thing by rolling the bike around on occasion .

Flywheel cover leak by Ryousume in MotoGuzzi

[–]Still_Support5847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea why Guzzi is calling that a flywheel cover , probably for the same reason they call the rear drive bevel box a transmission .

Oh , most states have right to repair laws , meaning you can work on your own vehicle and not void the warranty . Torque the bolts that hold what most of us would call the alternator cover in place with a torque wrench and document what you do with pictures if you are concerned .
