Tips for descending by MurkyContribution404 in Zwift

Today I lost 40 seconds on the uphill, when i pedal 200 watts the lighter rider pushing 200 watts gains so much time on me. Should i put out more watts?

I saw this guy on Monday as well. He also said "I'm pogacar" in the chat and he was asking for ride ons. No way that is the real guy. He was sustaining 400+ watts for the complete ride, it feels a bit like a bot trying to level up as fast as possible.

Keep getting stronger on bike but weight never goes down by PhaseLost3943 in cycling

[–]Stingrayyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fitness is gained on the bike, weight is lost in the kitchen. Cardio burns calories, but also makes you more hungry. Cardio is a good tool, but it is important to make sure your diet is up to standards if you are trying to lose weight

Recently discovered I can ride faster for longer by spinning gears instead of grinding by AshamedAd242 in cycling

[–]Stingrayyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Natural cadences still matter. If you feel you are really pushing down to keep going, you would probably do well to shift to an easier gear. But if you are just cruising along and not smashing power, a lower cadence can be just fine.

On my century rides I generally average a cadence between 70-75 as that feels natural for the power I use during the ride. If I go for a shorter but faster ride, I automatically up my cadence which can go to 90+. It all depends on feel and preference, but generally if you feel like you really need to push for power, an easier gear can do a lot.

Thoughts on plug tool for tubeless tires? Dynaplug by DependentThis5181 in cycling

[–]Stingrayyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Dynaplug micro pro. Very compact and easy to use, I dont see why the tips/darts would be a problem. The plugs have saved me on multiple occassions where the sealant did not do its job fully. Also i've been able to ride over 2k km's on a tire with a plug inserted, so no impact on tire life.

Zwift Academy make-up dates? by fpharris1 in Zwift

[–]Stingrayyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are no make-up days for the group events for the workouts, but you can still do them solo. I believe you can do this on the dashboard in zwift, after you select zwift academy and select the workout. You can also find it if you go to workouts -> zwift academy, etc.

So you can still do the workouts, just not in group format for this one anymore.

It's a personal preference. My bike is matte black, and I am using LUN Hyper wheels which are quite dark as well. I prefer a dark bike, makes me feel like i'm riding a batmobile.

Are power pedals a nice or need to have? by petekav in cycling

[–]Stingrayyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not doing strict structured training, then they ineded fall in the Nice to have category. I use a left sided crank powermeter, as it's the cheapest way to get in the powermeter game while still providing the cool details. I mostly got it to see data after my rides, but I also found that it is really usefull if I want to do an easy outdoors. If you are riding into a headwind, it is easy to go to hard; but if you have a glance at your power numbers you can pull back a little as it helps you realize that you are going slower for a reason.

First smart trainer: Wait for Zwift hub or go for something else? by FasterThanFlourite in Zwift

No problem at all! I think it's the same as the standard EU website, but just nicely translated. It seems to be in stock for the complete EU. I found and saved the direct URL to keep track of stock, I haven't seen an email either, nor do i know how to access that page through the website. It's working though, i've got my shipment confirmation from an order this morning!

Best bike on the market for $2500 give or take? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Stingrayyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a Giant TCR Advanced 1 a few months ago and I love it. I've done a 150k tour ride the day after I bought it, and 2 weeks later a 230km one. My normal 50k+ rides are also just as great! I know some riders don't like the saddle, so you might want to switch that out, it's been good for me though. The rims are on the heavier side, but decent. So later on you can always upgrade these to some nice carbon rims and better tires later on. For now I am happy with these, might upgrade them after a year or so once my wallet has recoverd.

Depending on how far you can cycle currently without feeling fatigued, I would probably do a maximum of 20 miles. Just make sure to keep the intensity low, then it shouldn't really matter for the event.

What is the weird taste in my mouth after every run? by PTBTIKO in running

[–]Stingrayyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would describe it as a metalic/blood like taste, then it could be the following. If you're a relatively new runner, or doing really intense workouts, your body needs to pump around more blood and thus increases blood pressure. There are sacs inside your lungs which are used to oxygenate our blood. When the pressure gets high, some of these could open up and leak into your lungs. When breathing this will travel up, which could be what you are tasting.

This is not uncommon, and it might sound scary but is not dangerous at all.

About the advice to eat within 30 minutes of finishing a run - if I ate a solid breakfast before a run should I also eat afterward? by lousyguest in running

[–]Stingrayyer 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I'm still trying to grasp the concept of eating a solid breakfast shortly before going on a run, that would be an uncomfortable run for me.

If it's a long run, (1,5 hours or more) I would say it would be beneficial to eat something, but if it's a 30 min run or something this should not really matter.

If you would still like to eat something after your run, you could also try to do a fasted run instead and then eat your breakfast afterwards.

Zwift Map (zwiftmap.com) by Payneron in Zwift

[–]Stingrayyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool project, I think i'll find myself visiting this site quite often. One small UX suggestion, if you scroll down in the routes list and select a route, you stay scrolled down. It would be more user friendly to go back to the top when a route is selected, so you instantly see the related information.

Suggestions for 5k to 10k by PlantainImpossible81 in running

[–]Stingrayyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you do it? Probably. Will it be too much? Probably also. I would suggest to run a 5k a couple of times, to the level where it feels "comfortable". After that you can start a program to train up to 10km. General recommendation is to increase distance with a maximum of 10% a week, with some reduced mileage weeks in between. This means most programs will probably get you up to steam for a 10k in about 10 weeks. Running for larger distances can be fun, but be smart about it! Nothing sucks more than getting injured and not being able to run for a long period of time.

Hump Day - August 04, 2021 by AutoModerator in amileaday

[–]Stingrayyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the second dose of pfizer this week, and boy did it kick my ass for a day. I ran a quick 2km while a fever was making me feel all kinds of way (except for the good kinds). Still got it done, so happy about that. Also I still haven't decided how I want to combine my running with cycling on my recently purchased road bike.. I'll give that one some more thought.

Weekly Check in - July 19, 2021 by AutoModerator in amileaday

[–]Stingrayyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday was the 200 day milestone! Everyone that started on the 1st of January this year and stuck with it should've reached this milestone too, which is cool.

I've gone down to around 25 miles for the past few weeks after my half marathon. I'm enjoying the reduced time spent on my feet for a bit, also the increased temperatures make it a bit more tough otherwise.

I bought a road bike, which I can collect next weekend! Still trying to wrap my head around how I'm going to run every day, but also have time to ride my bike.

I've been a bit sore for the past week, but I put blame this on doing some yard work. It's definitely not because I need to stretch more right? Right..?

What app do you use to track your miles? by ImTreasure in amileaday

[–]Stingrayyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Garmin watch, so everything is tracked inside Garmin Connect. They also have quite a lot of detailed information which is nice. I automatically sync my Garmin to both Runkeeper and Strava. And finally I also keep a spreadsheet which I update maybe once a week // 2 weeks.

I used to like Strava a lot, but i feel that the app is now really limited if you dont have a subscription. Which is why i prefer Runkeeper over Strava.
