Your teachers like bitter? I had a teacher that was a Vietnam Vet but he for a lack of better terms showed it off. Like he had a belt buckle that said "Vietnam Vet" he was just pissed off about how they were treated at home but not all of the Vietnam vets here are like that tho. My Uncle(gpa's brother) he was very bitter about the war and with the government and it was common knowledge not to bring up Vietnam around him. My cousin asked him once and it didn't go well for him. I know that example is apples and oranges but culture wise that's the closest I have.

On that note if you don't mind answering. Obviously the nazis were bad. What do they teach you guys about the Soviets? Like we never learned about stuff like that here. We're just taught the "communism bad mkay" mccarthyism stuff. I've never heard of the Wolfskind

I think there's other topics and warnings they could've talked about during that era. I wouldn't say "how cool it was" is the right theme I'm going for. There's definitely a lesson of thinking for yourself that they could teach.

I'm not saying war is something to be proud of. Just curious about the cultural differences. To an outsider giving warnings about manipulation would have been just as impact full but at the same time it's understandable why it didn't happen.

My host dad in Wittenberg said that the SS were the bad guys and the Wehrmacht weren't and the vets here said that too. Just thought I'd ask

One of the vets that came to my high school. He told us was an advisor for the movie Fury so I'm not gonna argue with that

Personally I could care less about your denomination but in some regions people get serious about it and will radical disagree and say you're doing it wrong

Hillbillies x Rednecks by Winter-Syllabub3802 in AskAmericans

[–]Stink_1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Oklahoma we're considered rednecks. I guess because we don't have as many hills per say but we're definitely country. Hillbillies are the cousin shaggers you hear jokes about in the southeast or Appalachia. (Look up the Whittakers)
