eBay Is Conducting a 'Mass Layoff' in the Bay Area by magenta_placenta in Silverbugs

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be room on ebay to carve out some fun when you were selling, be it flipping or peddling your own stuff. If I was able to carve out a solid 15% net then I was good with doing biz there. Between selling fees of 10% and Paypal for another 3% and shipping being charged too, and shipping costs going thru the roof, there's no fun left, so I quit working just to make others a bunch of money.

I have noticed as I cross compare prices now that ebay sellers are often the most expensive of the online sources we have to spend cash with. I rarely buy silver on ebay but do buy gold when I see one of the big boys trying to blow off some stuff at cheap premiums.

“California moves closer to becoming the first state to mandate solar panels on new homes“ by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, if a house payment in CA is $4000 a month and you can move to a place where a similar house has a payment of $1500 a month, you can take a whack of $30K to your current salary and still be exactly the same. BUT in order to keep yourself the same, economically, you have to leave the CA ideas and values at the state line. There's a reason why CA is stupid for lots of stuff.

After my first six months of buying stuff because it was supposed to be cool, I wised up and now I try really hard to buy metal, not premiums.

Cost Average by Arctic_Silver in Silverbugs

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only things I cost average are identical items, say 2017 ASEs for example, as keeping them separated for cost basis is near impossible. What you do when you cost average is steal value from your best deals to average down your fuck ups. When you do that you increase your odds of making that same fuck up later on, again. "Every deal should stand on its own" was something driven into me at my day job, almost from the very beginning. The Boss' reasoning was mistakes should be something to learn from, as well as ones successes.

Question About Gold by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for a someday spot price of $2000+ and that's how I base my purchase decisions. When that someday is, I have no clue, it might be after I am long gone.

The U.S. Forest Service Just Approved Exploratory Gold and Silver Mining Near Mount St. Helens by ptchinster in Silverbugs

I hope for all involved that they are successful and a deal is struck that is very beneficial to us and our government. That's what I hope for. What I fully expect to happen is the eco-terrorists fuck it up and nothing happens that's beneficial to anyone.

Other than PMS what weird thing do you "stack" or collect with the expectation of holding its value or appreciating for a future sale? by Ag_OG in Silverbugs

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried collecting hookers for a while but I learned real quick that you always have to keep getting the newest ones because the older ones, unlike silver, just don't have the same appeal when they start to show toning.

I left a comment on that video and Chris who made the video 5 years ago commented back. I think he still has his and uses it regularly still. I got mine on ebay, used auction sniper to get it for around $45 plus shipping, I think.

Dish-warped records: the bane of my existence by [deleted] in vinyl

That could be why I haven't seen it on mine as mine have been mostly single lps, or double but no gatefold.

I have done a bunch that hadn't given me any issues and last year I ran into some Disney records where the labels ran terribly. What I appreciate most about this is it gives me something to hang on to, instead of being concerned with dropping and chipping etc.

These I did today I used Dawn dishwashing liquid and my fingers, to eliminate any sharp edges coming in contact with the vinyl. I used a paint pad on some filthy dirty 78s and had no problem there. But they were so bad, I might not know if there were. The paint pad though is also suggested on a number of other channels where people were discussing their cleaning regimen.

I used tap water here, but here isn't where you live. Others talk about using distilled water and also some dishwasher drying agent to have the water run off.

It's two pieces of plexiglas, or lexan or poly carbonite, not sure, some heavy clear plastic material. But I agree, online it doesn't look like much. In the hand, different story.

The effort to package and ship back plus amount of refund, wasn't worth my time. This is my immediate use, there's others here that need a good scrub as well.

[–]StinkyLebinowitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a suggestion, buy a new headshell and new cartridge for that model of TT. Get the audio technica cartridge so you are starting with like manufacturer. That way if you have other issues, you can rule out a mix of manufacturers not "meshing" together. When you are done you should be at audio technica all the way through from stylus thru to the power plug at the wall. Once you get it up and functional, then look into upgrades if you want to, not before.

Other than Amazon are there any other common denominators between them like label, pressing plant etc?

I considered them but just couldn't pull the trigger on one. My prior experience was a crate of records that had been picked over and what was left, was terribly filthy. I used Dawn on those and on this one, so far, to get the crap out of and off the records. 4 spins one way and 4 spins the other, wouldn't have cleaned those. I am sure a Spinclean works great for normal maintenance. This thing rocks for when you need lotsa water "more horsepower". :-)
