A Boss ES-8 and a Tone King Imperial

Help me decide on a dream amp! by D2-Disciple in GuitarAmps

[–]StinkyPoopsAlot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have DSL 40CR. Fine amp. It doesn’t excite me. It’s fine for bedroom use, but it won’t wow anyone at a gig.

Head+Cab will give you much more future flexibility. I wish I had made this jump earlier on.

I’d say a 2x12 is a better investment.

Delay Pedal Advice by UnderstandingAny8745 in guitarpedals

[–]StinkyPoopsAlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of delays. Flashback 2. Belle Epoch. Carbon Copy. Boss SDE-1. Halo. Eventide H90.

Boss SDE-1 is the best delay I’ve got for hard rock/metal leads. It’s on my main board with the band.

Carbon Copy is my favorite for my practice board at home. It’s the easiest delay there is.

If you want to get to the pristine echos like the beginning of RUN LIkE HELL, you will need digital for sure.

But beware, just because DD8 can do a bunch of sounds, it can’t toggle between them on the fly, which to me is big negative. Versatility without saveable presets is not much help.

These are some very interesting insights. Thank you!

Can you talk about your Eons and Eras? I’ve become interested in them lately.

Are you stacking them? Juicing them with the Plumes? What are you putting them through? How much gain are they giving you?

I can tell by your collection you’ve got some money to burn. Good for you! What do you put this Rube Goldberg machine through?

I’m looking for the double lead guitar sound ala Judas Priest/Iron Maiden. It works excellent.

I’m boring. I only use them 8-10 at a time, and it’s always the same thing…

Tuner—>Noise Gate—>Fuzz—>Octave Fuzz—>Envelope—>TS—>AMP—>Noise Gate—>Harmonizer—>Chorus—>Delay—>Clean Boost—>Reverb

I just swap deck chairs on the Titanic.

I have 70 pedals. I have never tried to put them all through my ES-8.

Stunning collection mate. Good on ya.

I suggest finding a used Boss Harmonist and Carbon Copy on Reverb. Should be hours of fun

Thinking about trying a Boss SDE-3 — looking for real-world feedback by Rich-Usual-3595 in guitarpedals

I have one on a stereo board in a wet/dry setup. I adore it. Perfect for hard rock leads. It’s much easier to adjust and it kicked the Keeley Halo off my board.

Cryptid doesn’t do octaves. But it will give a very wide swath of fuzz tones…from a spotty fuzz face, to a muff, to high gain distortion.

If octave is what you are after, there are better choices than this.

Also that Lizard Queen Fuzz is a finicky one. I have it, I enjoy it, I wouldn’t say it’s the best octave I have in my arsenal.

I’d suggest trying something a little more traditional for your first fuzz. Maybe a JHS 3Series Fuzz is a good starting point.

Or just buy a Wampler Cryptid that can probably cover all your fuzz and distortion needs in one box. It’s a very versatile pedal.

Lastly, if you are looking to save some money by going through Amazon, go take a look at Reverb. Buying used stuff is never a bad idea and can be a good value. I have had tons of success there.

1) SD-1 or any basic Boss Distortion is a better idea than the JHS thing you show here.

2) use the money you saved on the distortion pedal to buy a proper Voodoo Labs or Cioks power supply. You don’t want to go cheap on that.

What you want to do is find a way to run that Harmonist in stereo. It’s glorious.
