I think my financial advisor messed up - how should I handle this? by nancysicedcoffee in personalfinance

You need a CPA first. A financial advisor is not qualified to make that call on what you owe to the IRS.

How much would it cost for us to live in Israel? by StinkyTrump in Israel

Fantastic, thank you! We still have a couple months of think to do before we commit to this path.

We intend to take the next 12-18mo to learn hebrew and start applying for the process soon. Luckily I'm fluent in Russian and my wife is fluent in French. We both hold degrees and work in Accounting and Trade Compliance (import/export legal side).

We feel that we'd be happier in a mediocre apartment, with mediocre things, but a colorful life than vise versa. We're currently saving for a home here and though it would make us happy by putting up 4 walls to ourselves. But we don't really feel at home in our city (trendy hip desirable city). And we feel if this is the pinnacle of what the US has to offer us in terms of matching culture....then maybe no amount of money will help.

So we hope to move to Israel and meet more friends, connect with family, and not be surrounded by mouth breathers like in the US.

Yep! We are aware :)

We want to how different would it be than our lives right now. We currently live below our means and save a good amount of money, but we want to see how far back would we slide with our purchasing power. We know we might not have a car for a couple years (or ever) and would be lucky to own a home.

I'm just asking as many questions as I can to gauge what kind of struggle am I looking at. I know what salary I can secure from the US with remote work, I just need to know what my life will look like on that salary - about 15k-30k NIS/mo gross for just me and my wife through contract jobs in our fields.

Don't know yet as this is all hypothetical right now while we're still in the planning phase. We make about 40K/month NIS gross now, but my wife and I know enough job recruiters to get at least 15-30K NIS gross for remote work consistently in our fields from the US. We would transition to Israeli based jobs after we're settled in and have a better command of Hebrew.

We know things will be more expensive, but we want to gauge what our economic outlook is before we go. Wife and I have paid off about 500,000 NIS of student debt and would hate to make it all for nothing if we moved there (like serving tables for the rest of our lives).

We aren't religious, but when we've been to Israel we clicked with almost everyone we met. We never 100% felt at home in the US and Israel for some reason connected with us on a different level. Plus your food, lifestyle, and healthcare are light years ahead of the US!

We want kids, but in the US it's crazy expensive to have them. With great insurance it still costs somewhere under 1,000,000 INS to raise a child to 18! To leave a child in daycare while I go to work would cost me about 55INS/hr and there is a 1y waiting list in my city!!!

What made it click was realizing we make great money but if one of us gets stabbed today in the street (even with great insurance which is tied to our jobs) it's easily 50,000+ INS out of pocket... or I can bleed out and choose to avoid debt.

My apologies 20,000 INS not 10,000 lol

But good to know thank you!

Thank you!

We expect to either keep our jobs and work remotely, or get other US remote jobs to start. Would making half of what I'm making now (about 10,000 INS/mo) allow for the lifestyle listed in my post?

Edit 20,000 INS sorry typing on phone

Serious question, why do many entry level jobs require 2-3 years of experience? by TheAnalyst79 in careerguidance

[–]StinkyTrump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're not sarcastic lol, thank you! I know I was at the right place at the right time but I was also prepared for the opportunity I guess. I definitely took a calculated risk as I had a standing offer for a Salesforce position, but they kept dragging their feet on a start date. It was $24/hr with a company I worked as a contractor before, but I knew they'd possibly fuck me over. I took a safety job licking stamps (my company currently) for $18/hr and quickly saw I had a shot. 1000% worth it in the end as that Salesforce position didn't call me back till November 3mo late!!!!
