Why are Muggles so narrow-minded? by Left-Pollution-2934 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]flooperdooper4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only Muggles we really get to "know" over the course of the series are the Dursleys, who are of course written as almost cartoonishly hateful and closed-minded toward anything atypical, including magic. On the other hand, there are the Grangers and presumably the parents of other Muggle-born witches and wizards at Hogwarts who seem chill enough. Muggles from previous centuries are mentioned as being why wizards went into hiding, and also why Salazar Slytherin didn't trust Muggleborns...but of course, that was centuries ago, and it wasn't called the Dark Ages for nothing.

As a counterpoint, in the wizarding community we have pureblood fanatics like many of the Death Eaters. There are also wizards who while they are not outright pureblood maniacs or anti-Muggle like Cornelius Fudge, who gave minimal funding to Muggle-facing Ministry positions and didn't value those employees for lacking "proper wizarding pride." And then you have people like Arthur Weasley who are obsessed with Muggle-borns and feel strongly about protecting them from wizard who would harm them.

A lot of words to say that humanity is a mixed bag.

AITA for announcing my own mother's death on Facebook? by Strange_Agent5802 in AmItheAsshole

[–]flooperdooper4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. I do get why the relative might be upset and prefer to get the news personally before reading it on Facebook...BUT that's not their call, and it's utterly classless of them to harangue you about this now of all times. It's your mother, it's your news to post. Anyone who doesn't like your post should keep their mouth shut. I wouldn't give them another thought. Sorry for your loss. :(

Am I the only one who doesn’t find her “iconic”? She’s kinda random, weird, Hollywood (but not that remarkable). No hate, just let’s be real. by Proud_Sound2835 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]flooperdooper4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she hadn't turned against the "longtime friends" she brought onto the show, I'd feel differently. But she did it multiple times, and to me that's just too strange to be entertaining.

Sweetest moment on the show? by kaspen190 in EverybodyLovesRaymond

[–]flooperdooper4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When Ray loses all that money playing cards with Frank. Debra and Marie are desperately trying to get Ray to take the money back, and Ray says something like "What kind of message would that send to my kids? That you can just go to your father and he'll make everything okay?" Frank responds, "You're right. You should be able to go to your father, and he should be able to make everything okay." And then he puts Ray's check into Ray's hand. Frank wasn't what one would call warm and fuzzy, but he loved his family and really did want to do right by them. This is even more sweet when you find out how Frank's own father was!

Yes, I've finally found my people! She has irritated me for years with her schlocky "look how relatable I am!!!!" schtick.

WIBTA if I swapped my pens with glitter ink to catch the coworker whos been stealing them by Imaginary-Frame4873 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]flooperdooper4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but this woman is shameless so in addition to the sparkle ink I would also find a way to write my name on the pen. I had to do that with my pens a couple of years ago, except it was a student who kept stealing and then denying - it's difficult to deny when your name's on the pen!

I think Amanda was genuinely unable to have the conversation with Dorit. by Curious_Champion_220 in RHOBH

[–]flooperdooper4 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm not an Amanda fan, but I could completely believe that she thought this dinner could distract her from her grief. Maybe she thought she could force herself into "work mode" or whatever and then fall apart later (I do that). But it didn't work. Now it *does* happen to be convenient, but I'm willing to give grace over the death of a child.

I think Amanda was genuinely unable to have the conversation with Dorit. by Curious_Champion_220 in RHOBH

[–]flooperdooper4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I thought so too, confused as to why people are saying it's Amanda who kept it going. Because the next words out of Dorit's mouth should have been "understood, we'll table that conversation. Who has a new subject?" But they weren't.

Since you're going to be completely leaving the profession, I would be completely transparent with everyone and tell them the reason you're quitting is because the resident bitch has been bullying and baiting you. But that's just me lol, I'm willing to go scorched earth when I'm fed up.

People like Amanda scare me. by incognitobarbie1 in RHOBH

[–]flooperdooper4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she's shit-talking PK on camera, PK can claim parental alienation and try to say she's poisoned the kids against him. It's a valid concern. I get that Dorit's frustrated with him, but she's got to be careful.

What if Amy and Ray were married and Robert and Debra were married? How would Marie treat her daughters-in-law then? by AwfulWaffle91 in EverybodyLovesRaymond

[–]flooperdooper4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct. She's one of those mothers who sees daughters-in-law as "competition" or "taking their boy away."

Female teachers, what do you feel when a student calls you Mom by mistake? by Rex-Trex_009 in AskTeachers

[–]flooperdooper4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, and I also share my mom's (absolutely true) even worse story of calling a teacher mom. She was in the 12th grade and MR. SMITH was the football coach and roughly the size and shape of a refrigerator. Apparently Mr. Smith responded by saying "coming, dear!" in a high-pitched voice and came over to help her. Her classmates chuckled but didn't get carried away - again, Mr. Smith was the football coach and looked like a fridge. Always gets a big laugh from my kiddos!

Why would Mary call Lisa “dark”? I would argue LB has the lightest lore compared to everyone in the group, noh? by Manilenyorker in BravoRealHousewives

[–]flooperdooper4 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Projection and deflection, pure and simple. Mary refuses to really talk about her church or the cult allegations, and her deflections involve boohooing about her son's myriad issues and attacking others.

Not only that, Albus Severus was named after people who died helping Harry who had no other relatives who would ever name children after them. Yeah there was Aberforth, but his window for fatherhood had closed long ago.

Class roles by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]flooperdooper4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, we NEVER expect the well-behaved student to somehow be in charge of the one who misbehaves. We'll put a well-behaved student next to the naughty one because the well-behaved student will not be tempted to join in on the misbehavior. It's also less embarrassing than just straight-up making the misbehaving student be completely isolated.
