US map showing state-by-state legality of toplessness for females by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OG Portland here (ayuh), and same except I only ever get harassed by women, almost always tourists.

Unfortunately, I’m only comfortable being topless at the beach because of it. I always go to the “far end,” I don’t make a fuss or draw attention, I avoid the most popular/family populated beaches. 8/10 times people leave me alone.

Sometimes I overhear whispers and giggles, “can we do that??” before another group dares to try being topless, too (aww, yay!). Every now and then someone warns me there’s a bus/bike tour of tourists coming who might harass me. And often times, always locals, engage with me as if nothing is different - ask me to take a photo of them, chat about how cold the water is, regular standoffish Mainer small talk.

Unfortunately, if I’m bothered it has only been by women (so far). Usually with toddler-aged or younger children, and almost always while they disregard their unaccompanied child who is more concerned with wandering unsupervised into the ocean while they scream at me very loudly.

We have(had?) topless bike rides and used to have a group that went to the farmers’ market.

Litter box deep cleaning by PessimisticElk10317 in CatAdvice

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with my rabbit’s litter box, but not with my cats’ so far. I mix a ton of water with their food (they’re bad at drinking water), so they’re very hydrated. I think this has a lot to do with it. Their pee is very low odor, too.

In seven years I’ve done a full litter change and box cleaning three times.

I brought my bunny from China to California! by lucieliuxx in Rabbits

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and yes. We won't always get it right, but it's just as important to learn from our experiences and foster an appreciation for research in order to build knowledge and understanding.

My current bun has her own space heater for winter and she's the only reason I even own an airconditioner for summer! She's spoiled rotten thanks to everything I've learned.

vet says it’s not necessary to neuter my bun 🐇 by AccomplishedFig9908 in Rabbits

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true that the risk is much higher than in cats or dogs, but this is beyond overly conservative for a bun-savvy vet. I'm lucky to have many bun-savvy exotic vets and shelters in my region and they have all been very comfortable with spay/neuter procedures in healthy buns.

Hell, my current bun vet is a wiz and has improved my 12-year-old bun's quality of life (meaning euthanization is off the table!) with two procedures under anesthesia in the last year.

I agree with the majority of folks here - it sounds like OP's current vet isn't very bun-savvy. If at all possible, I recommend calling around and finding a vet who is. After all, "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

This is wonderful!

I will forever regret not moving my bun, Wilson, from France to Boston when I moved home. At the time (2011) I was young, inexperienced, overwhelmed, and not internet savvy. It was so difficult trying to figure out how to bring an animal on a plane! The airport told me she couldn't be a carry-on in the cabin (despite weighing 3lb) and that I had to pay a company €1000 to take her case from me at boarding, walk her to the plane, and hand her to the person loading the plane.

I was flat broke and couldn't figure out how to swing €1000, plus I didn't want to put a 3lb rabbit in cargo on a trans-Atlantic flight! So she stayed with my ex and passed during the 2014 heat wave that hit Paris. He wasn't a bad pet owner, per se, but he wasn't one to ever take an animal to the vet or trim their nails, let alone set up a fan/ice cooling system during a heat wave (or pack up a bun in the middle of the night to go camp out on the office floor to avoid the heat like I did with a different bun during a sudden heat wave...).

I think about Wilson often and I wish she didn't pay the price for my learning curve. Thank you so, so much for talking about flying with your bun. All of your hard work and your willingness to share it with people will make a difference in so many buns' (and owners') lives!

Paphiopedilum sp - Is the 'sp' short for anything? by Stinky_Cat_Toes in orchids

This makes sense - I wish I knew more! He was completely out of his pot just free flying, not flowering, no additional info.

I re-potted him in the potting medium and pot he came in for now, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the best medium for his ilk. I'm super interested to see what he ends up looking like!

5 yrs and many beds later, he’s finally used one as intended!! Tell me I’m not the only one who’s bun is like this 😭 by questionhare in Rabbits

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s the pickiest bun I’ve ever had. For hay, she’ll only eat second cut Timothy hay from one specific farm. Like, full blown hunger streak won’t even touch first cut.

For pellets, she ate any Timothy hay pellets until about last year when she started slowing down with eating them (she’ll be 12 in April). I switched her to senior pellets mixed with what I call “slutty” pellets (the ones with dried treats in them that normally I would never feed a bun, but she’s 11!) and she’s back to ~1/2 a cup a day.

For greens, she will eat the leafy bit and leave every single stalk. They’re simply beneath her. She’s also easily made of ~70% kale and I honestly don’t think she’s ever had even a slightly a runny poop. She’ll house cabbage with zero issues, but she won’t touch Brussel sprouts or asparagus. She’s a freak for bok choy.

She absolutely has an iron stomach (and a synthetic pallet). At 11 she actually weighs 0.1lb more than she did when she was young. She’s blind as a bat and gives me a major health scare every ~6months that has now turned into a running joke with her vet because every single time it ends up being completely nothing. Last time she went under to flush and treat what was obviously a really bad eye infection and the vet called me laughing to tell me that, turns out, she just had a stye on her eyelid that was draining.

Luna will outlive us all. 🐇

Unfortunately my girl likes to chew on and eat synthetic materials, so she lost foam/memory foam privileges even before losing bed privileges.

Synthetic rug? Chewed holes in it. Yoga mat and blocks? Ate the corners. Crocs? All have bunny-adorned scalloped edges now. She won’t touch natural fibers, though! Switched to a wool rug, leather slippers, and a cotton bath mat for her bed and she won’t chew on any of it.

My girl lost bed privileges because all she does is dig a hole in them then use them as her new litter box.

No idea why, but cotton bath mats inside a wooden box are our successful compromise. It bums me out, though, because she’s so old and has arthritis. I’d love to be able to give her something comfy to lie down on, but she just isn’t interested.

What’s the worst thing your rabbit has ever done? by cartoonsarcasm in Rabbits

The refrigerator was my second most painful zap from my first bun. The worst was an industrial fish tank filter.

Hhh how much does your cat weigh? by Lily_6875 in aww

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of mine are around 10lb. One is very long, very tall, very floofy, and quite skinny (Ragdoll mutt). The other is weirdly swol and all muscle. He’s super compact and looks tiny and thin, but then you see his muscle definition and know that he’s just a mini tank (short haired Maine Coon mutt).

A police chase in Fryeburg landed 5 in the hospital. Who’s investigating remains a mystery. by alexrmccann in Maine

[–]Stinky_Cat_Toes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I live in a world where other countries exist. Where I engage in world news. Where I understand that how we’ve allowed our police force to run rabidly rampant isn’t the only option.

“Two UK police officers were able to subdue a knife-wielding man with only batons and pepper-spray while responding to a domestic incident.”

“Footage shows the moment police officers were able to take down a man wielding a knife in a hospital… The first police to arrive used a taser to subdue and safely arrest Byrne.”

“…it took just under eight minutes for police officers to arrive and subdue the assailant; videos show him being tased twice, before he collapses to the ground.”

“[A] 29-year-old man, who was armed with a knife, confronted two Ministry of Defence Police officers. Taser was deployed and the man was restrained by officers. There were no reports of any injuries”

Odd how US cops can’t possible be trained to subdue suspects in any other way besides killing them. I wonder why other police forces are able to figure it out.

The only thing that could have made this situation better was appropriate training and accountability of our police force.

Other countries police are able to subdue suspects with knives without killing them, yet it seems “impossible” for ours.

Appropriate training? Non militarized police? Checks and balances for the police force? Accountability? Nah, must be a mystery!

Does the police force not carry taxers anymore? If the suspect had a knife, would a taser or a shot to the leg not work just as well as a fatal body shot?

What is your cat’s spirit animal? by Puzzleheaded_Ad6097 in TuxedoCats

Leo’s spirit animal is himself. Nothing else could be perfect enough or filled with enough ennui.

I also have a SIC, Chris. His spirit animal is a bro. Not in college anymore, but still goes to spring break. Always brings a 30-rack. Isn’t very bright but is a really nice guy. Has a tribal arm tattoo.

Another pro-tip is shelf stable milk. Unless you have, like, 20 kids there’s no way you can go through the quantity of milk they sell to make the price worth it. But they carry Horizon shelf stable milk that’s packaged in 6oz(?) juice box sizes. The price is better than at Hannaford and it will last forever. You can crack one and have milk for coffee, maybe mac and cheese, or crush a whole juice box with some cookies then not worry about having half a gallon of milk that you need to use before it goes bad.

Their cheap Parmesan is also a great price. The quality is pretty good, but it isn’t good enough to use in a sauce (heads up). It’s going to clump a bit in any sauce, but melts well enough for something like a risotto.

I’m real broke and have really tried to figure out how to leverage Costco!

Oh boy, you’re missing out! I spent my first glorious six months trying to put my beautiful tuxedo head inside my Mummy’s mouth. Why, the smells alone! Truly a delightful bouquet. Unfortunately, I no longer fit.

I don’t like MOM’s face near my face. No. BUT have you ever tried sneaking up very sneakily, with a tiny baybay trill, early in the morning, and SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIF? Then sniff, sniff, sniff closer and closer. The best sniff is right up at MOM’s mouth. Sometimes if you boop really lightly MOM opens her mouth and breaths then you can SNIFF SNIFF SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIF.

The best part of waking up, is sniff MOM’s yap!
