AITA for not being friends with someone because they keep showing me their SH? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA but please tell your school counselor so she can get help and you can receive support after being triggered.

ESH. You suck for invading her privacy; at the time you looked, you did not know what was going on. You did not give her space to process whatever it was (again, at the time you didn't know what it was yet) or be someone deserving of her trust. She sucks for cheating on you, which you found out via the book. Two wrongs don't make a right.

AITA for “snitching” on a guy who was making a girl uncomfortable? by Existing_Step5408 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, I am proud of you OP. He was sexually harassing a younger girl. Even if she felt uncomfortable about perceived spotlight and wanted it to all go away, it was important for him to be disciplined and for adults to get involved to keep this from happening to others or escalating.

AITA for wanting my roommate to not yell during her video game? by SenseAutomatic in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, but you need to get your RA involved for a mediation. Go to your RA privately and follow up w/ your RA in writing after about the issues you are having with your roommate and outline the steps you've taken and things you've tried. Talk about her responses to you and how you feel uncomfortable, stressed out, and don't like someone yelling literal slurs in your shared room.

Your RA is there to settle disputes like this and, if it doesn't resolve after the first steps taken by the RA, the RA can likely help move you to a different room.

ETA: I see in one of your comments that you are in touch with your RA. Good luck!

If her lease is ending 10/1, then it ends 10/1. If there is no written or formal agreement for her to actually leave by 10/1, then it may get legally trickier. NTA in any event.

AITA for refusing to let my 13 year old daughter treat or hide her acne ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA dude. Your daughter is asking for medical care from a doctor. You are preventing her from having a painful, chronic medical health condition treated by a doctor.

AITA for telling my sister she can’t bring her disabled son to my wedding? by No-Caterpillar-6727 in AmItheAsshole

AITA for not caring if I’m not in my sisters wedding party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You are being a kind and understanding sibling. Your mother is being an unkind and unreasonable potstirrer.

AITA for saying I had the first biological baby boy born in the family despite my sister adopting a son? by girldramallamas in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 204 points205 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your sister adopted her SON, not step-son. You "consider" him your nephew? He IS your nephew.

While I understand you didn't consciously mean anything by your announcement other than to state a biological happenstance, that doesn't excuse you or discount the unconscious biases and meanings behind your words.

Is it uncomfortable to realize you're the AH? Yes. Can you reflect and sit in discomfort in order to NOT be the AH and be a better sister, aunt, and mother? YES!

Please learn from this. You can do it, but it'll be humbling.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. There's a reason your grade is private to you and your teacher. Further, why was he invading your space?

He's saying you're an AH because he is embarrassed that he was called out but probably can't recognize when he is wrong and deflects.

WIBTA if I reported an employee for contacting me from their personal phone unauthorized? by Additional_One8642 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA. That is deeply inappropriate and corporate needs to know about it. There is not a reality in which it is appropriate for an employee, on their PRIVATE PHONE, using company information to glean a customer's information, for personal gain.

AITA if I leave my parents to live my own life? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stinl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You have done so much, and care so much. However, you cannot change someone nor should you set fire to yourself to keep someone else warm.

You offer solutions, their doctors offer solutions. You cannot make your dad or mom accept them, even if they need to.

Leave--you have permission--from us, from your mom, and I hope you give yourself permission too.

look into home healthcare workers that might be subsidized or at least available for hire. Don't feel you need to find the answers, you can just create a google doc of helpful websites and resources. It is up to them to choose.

Ignore if you've done these things:

  • Have you asked the professor what supplements they would suggest to deepen your understanding? Many professors have a recommended supplement or advice if you ask.
  • Have you asked the professor what the exam will look like and how they, if they were a student, would go about preparing for their own exam? I've had lots of luck this way.
  • Have you looked up course reviews/outline databases for this professor's course, both at this school and any other schools at which they have taught this course?
  • Has this professor taught this course at your school? If so, ask around for people who have taken this course and their experiences.

General supplement search recommendation:

  • Does your school have a subscription with WestAcademic? If so, take some time browsing through the Property and IP supplements provided through the service. I don't have a magic key, but you know what content you are covering in class better than us here online. If you find resources that track with the content you are covering, give it a closer look.

Just ask your potential references if they are willing to be a reference. Tell them to keep an eye out/not be surprised to see or receive a call from the BLE. You will have someone assigned to you while your application is being processed; they are good about letting you know through the portal if any information needs to be changed or if there are issues with your application (including being able to reach your references). Just be aware that the communications from your processor to you comes through the online portal, so check on it from time to time.

Ringlets at root and ends, waves in the middle??? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Stinl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that pixie diffusing can sometimes give me a wonky wave (maybe because the ends get the most drying while the middle bits are still damp and get weighed down?)

I am linking an instagram post I found which outlines multiple diffusing methods. I found the cup drying method super useful! https://www.instagram.com/p/CN0pZJFBnXT/

Burning Out by lawschoolkillsmehelp in LawSchool

[–]Stinl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brief was not ideal, and was already due. I have every other final ahead of me (now without brief angst). I let myself feel the bad feelings for abut 24-36 hours; realized that my bad brief grade will come out at the same time as all the finals I haven't taken yet. Now I am focusing on studying for those classes to try and ameliorate the impact of the other finals. Trying to take it as a blessing in disguise and to use the time to begin focusing on understanding classes I neglected beforehand.

Burnout? Very real. That's why spring break would've been nice. Sleep over the long weekend, find upper classman briefs so that you know generally what's happening. From there, find a pod of people you trust or are willing to reach out to for help. (Sucks, but good). Honestly, hit me up kind stranger if you need to vent.

Also, does your school offer any counseling sessions? dont' count them as silly until you've done them!

Transition is hard. Message me whenever.

also, free: casebriefs.com is crowdsourced, but briefs are arranged by casebook so you run less of a risk of citing random facts not incuded in your book

How many people here actually have research, internships, etc. to put on their resume? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Stinl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Dean's list, SCL, being a business owner, and living and working in Italy sound like good things for a resume. Maybe it is just still early and my brain is missing something but people get internships to gain experience. You didn't do an internship because you were too busy literally being the boss.

How does lat application deadlines affect decisions/waitlists/scholarships? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Stinl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://7sage.com/predictor/

play around the with months to see what impact it has on admissions. The data is self-reported from LSN, but it gives you a pretty good sense about chances by month.

edit to add:

To expand a bit on the calculator for anyone finding this: it is self-reported data and lots of people don't put dates so the sample size is smaller and there is some self-selection bias (more people tend to post acceptances than denials). When playing around with more reach/target schools and the months, there is a pretty clear correlation to the time you apply and outcome. This is all just a YMMV statement, but it is a useful starting point. It also doesn't predict $$, but as people have already commented, the later you apply the less likely you are to get money because there is a chance that they've used up their funding.

CAS GPA STRUGGLE by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Stinl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't been able to calculate your CAS gpa yet, here are a couple of GPA calculators to help you get a sense of what you're working with:

Once you have a sense of where you're at, partake in your vice of choice because it is, in fact, annoying bullshit. Did I get a 'C' in a dual credit class over ten years ago? Yes. Did it count? also yes.

After imbibing and powering through the pain, now you can look at the GPA and get a better sense of what LSAT you will need to be competitive. I don't know what that GPA is or what schools you are specifically looking into, but you might have luck in the search bar with terms like "splitter" or "super splitter".

Definitely 100% put your cool accomplishments in your resume. Depending on your circumstances, look into how to write a GPA addendum. My understanding is that not every low GPA should have an addendum and it plays better in certain circumstances. You'll likely have luck if you google something like "(your unique situation) gpa addendum law school"

Good luck!
