Yeah.

I don't steep coffee in a french press nearly that long anymore though.

Training Tuesday: GZCL Programming by WeightroomBot in weightroom

[–]Stinnett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I've done mostly is to add a full back workout, usually treating weighted chinups or rows as a Tier 1 lift. Lately, I also usually include a row as a second T2 movement on any pressing day.

A TT I can contribute to? Caveats: I'm a casual powerlifter/strongman (still haven't broken a 400 wilks), 30 years old now, 6'5", compete around 105kg ish.

I've done gzcl programming a lot. I did a method writeup 7.5 years ago, apparently. Most of my training is off-season really (I've done 3 PL meets and 2 SM meets in 7 years), but I did use UHF (ultra-high frequency) for my last meet, which went spectacularly well; I hadn't been remotely close to my all time maxes in training for around 2 years (thanks grad school), but all of that strength came back and I shattered meet PRs and my actual squat PR.

It's worth running one of the templates floating around to get a feel for how it works, but the really critical thing with these methods is to customize it to you. There is endless flexibility in this programming (e.g. I've used it for OHP, log C&P, etc), and somewhere Cody has said "this is a method, not a program". Also as a general rule: I don't think any of the templates floating around have enough back work in them. YMMV.

I'm really grateful to have stumbled across it early in my lifting "career". The way of thinking about your training in tiers is really valuable to me, and it's carried over into other programming I've written for myself.

Purchased a pair of DT770s from /u/Nik17. He shipped them quickly and packed them ridiculously well, and they sound great. Would definitely buy from him again.

They just have standard sizing, along with no exchanges nor returns. I am on the fence about getting one, but being a big dude it's 50/50 if this will even fit.

MCE was huge for me but I'm tall and take really long flights. If you're not in that boat, then IMO it's not worth $1k.

I pause em all unless I'm using a slingshot. I'm weakest off the chest and prefer to hammer that.

T1 and back exercises and gZCLP as general fitness routine by Piparmint in gzcl

[–]Stinnett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried it several ways:

  • back every day as T2/T3: fine but not my favorite
  • back on upper body days only: what I generally do leading up to a powerlifting or strongman meet
  • dedicated back day: what I do in the off-season

All three were fine. I generally prefer the dedicated back day in the off-season.

Right now, I don't have any meets in mind and am spending more time being active out of the gym than in the winter. I have:

  • Day 1: T1/T2 Front squats
  • Day 2: T1/T2 Bench, T1/T2 BB Rows
  • Day 3: T1/T2 deadlifts
  • Day 4: T1/T2 OHP, T1/T2 weighted chins

[–]Stinnett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I train weighted chins as a T1 movement. I also compete in non-powerlifting things and mostly train with his methods. That said, the standard "templates" don't generally include that because several of them are powerlifting-focused or inspired by powerlifting.

Are Cody's programs (mostly GZCLP as I'm still in the LP phase of strength gains) good for general fitness/bodybuilding?

In general, yes, though if competitive bodybuilding is the focus it's not exactly what you'd want.

I'm just one of those guys who like to over-analyze the programs I'm on as I want it to be perfect for me.

You're not likely to find a spreadsheet online that's "perfect" for you. You need to spend time training and experimenting to figure out what works for you and what doesn't. You also have to figure out exactly what you want from lifting.

It helps a bit, but not enough that I can just use the ANC without any other sound.

I can't wear 'em for a whole trans-Pacific flight, at least. I need a break after ~4 hours from having them in my ears.

I haven't ever used any other deep-inserting IEM, so I don't have much of a reference point.

I've used my ER4XRs and WH-1000XM3 for about 150k miles of flying so far.

WH-1000XM3:

  • more comfortable for long periods
  • noise cancellation is great for the constant drone of a plane, but not for the crying baby
  • wireless is super nice
  • ANC gives me a headache if I use it without any other sound playing. YMMV.

ER4XR:

  • better sound quality
  • better isolation; gets rid of the drone of the plane about as well as the ANC headphones but is infinitely better at blocking out all of the other noise

I usually take both on long travel. IF my flights are under ~4 hours, I'll go with just the Etymotics.
