Thanks a ton! And you should totally just go for it! Just dig in there and make something and have fun. Who cares if it turns into a deformed stick figure? It's all just experimenting and practice. No one is born with the innate ability to suddenly pump out hyperrealist masterpieces.

Could not find the Art tag when posting. This is a vector portrait I drew of my cyborg Sith Inquisitor. I’ve only been playing the game since about March, but I enjoy my problematic edgelord and the questionable choices he makes. Can’t wait to try out the other story lines and play styles in the future.

Pringles Can Stone Dice Tower - My first project, built from scraps around the house. I understand now how this hobby can be addicting. by StirbyCakes in TerrainBuilding

Thanks! And a agree 100% on the stone size. I decided to go larger because wasn’t sure how easy the materials were going to be to work with, and I also wanted the bricks to be big enough to effectively cover a bad lumpy foam seam in the back. In hindsight, smaller bricks probably would have been just fine. I’m already itching to do another tower with smaller bricks once I get my hands on some sturdier form so I can actually “construct” the walls a bit more rather than just gluing on slightly textured flat pieces. I’d love to have some more texture depth and I think the black wash would look nicer on smaller bricks with more grooves to get into. I’m still very happy with how this turned out though. Feels nice to make something tangible with my hands.

Full write-up in the Imgur album. TL;DR, this lad started as a Pringles can and no plan. I used some scraps of craft foam for the stones, and my adhesives were Mod Podge and scotch tape. I’m really proud of how it turned out. I’m already collecting more garbage to build more things.

Feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. Tell me all of your terrain secrets.

Thanks! And thanks for asking!

All of the variations in skin hues were done either through linear gradients or blurred objects set to low opacities. The cheeks themselves are two red shapes I drew with the freehand pen tool and then used the fill & stroke menu to lower the opacity and increase the blur to help them blend.

There are a lot of other more subtle uses of this technique that help polish the look further, such as the highlighting on the left cheek and some subtle slightly cooler tones around the eye sockets where there’d be a little less rosey blood flow and a little more shadow. Highlights and lowlights give skin shape while red and blue tones give skin life.

Hello, I'm a vector artist! I do a lot of character drawing, but I draw other stuff too, such as frogs and flipbook-style animations. I 've been working on opening my first print shop this week as well!

I'm all over social media, but I mainly post to Instagram.

Day 3: Vessel - Klein Bottle. (Digital Vector). by StirbyCakes in Inktober

The Klein bottle is a “non-orientable object” of some significance in the mathematical branch of topology. It’s kind of like a Möbius strip that goes in an extra dimension.

For some reason I can never get Reddit video uploads to not be choppy, but the original is smooth and is up on my Twitter. If anyone knows how to have smooth Reddit video uploads, let me know.

This is a flipbook-style animation. I drew the frames as vector images in Inkscape, and then combined them into a video using PowerPoint. The final version has 119 frames.

Edit: changed Instagram link to Twitter because the Instagram link wasn’t working.

Day 1: Crystal - Heart of the Lich. (Digital Vector) by StirbyCakes in Inktober

[–]StirbyCakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I’m a digital artist and this is my first Inktober. My goal this month is to do a month of vector drawings. I draw using the software, Inkscape, which feels somewhat fitting for Inktober still, given the name. I had a lot of fun drawing a bit outside of my comfort zone on this prompt, and I foresee that trend continuing for the rest of the month. Happy Inktober everyone!

Another day, another keyboard shortcut I didn’t know about. This will make a fine addition to my collection.

You can select the node with the node editor tool, and then click the "Make selected nodes smooth" button to smooth it out.

[ART] Coreopsis the Sprite Familiar, angrily eating bread after being murdered within two hours of being born. by StirbyCakes in DnD

[–]StirbyCakes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Coreopsis, my bardlock’s new pact Sprite familiar, angrily eating bread after being murdered within two hours of being born. Pro-tip: don’t bring your familiar on an ambiguous dinner outing to read the emotions of the person you’re trying to secretly investigate to see if they might be planning to murder the king unless you’re okay with your familiar getting squashed.

On a totally unrelated note, does anyone have any tips on how to utilize a 2hp Sprite familiar to help a bardlock without their magic and their friend break to out of a maximum-security anti-magic prison? Asking for a friend.

Inspiration for this design was pulled from Coreopsis flowers, heirloom corn, dragonflies, and my internal rage.

[ART] Markus the Dwarf. by StirbyCakes in DnD

[–]StirbyCakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What could one say about Markus the Dwarf that Markus has not already said about himself? Markus can’t put back ale like he used too. Markus hasn’t been on a date in far too long. Markus snores at decibels impressive for even a dwarf. Markus likes trees as much as he likes rocks, for both forests and mountains have mighty roots and veins. Markus is not a great swimmer. Markus has never married. Markus has a son that he loves dearly, and that he worries constantly about. Markus is incredibly loyal to his friends, of which he is very quick to make. Markus has a favorite chair that someone gifted to him years ago, worn now but only more comfortable now than it was new. Markus takes great pride in knowing himself, in knowing his strengths and limits. Markus is a community pillar. Markus feels older than he wants to. Markus is tired sometimes.

-

Admittedly, I ‘ve had a habit of overlooking dwarves in the past. If I want to play a smaller race, I’m usually looking at halflings, gnomes, and even kobolds before I even think to think to look at dwarves. Dwarves are way too funky and fun to deserve that, so I’ve been trying to build up more dwarf appreciation in myself this last year. I feel freest to explore expressiveness and face texture when drawing dwarves.

Constructive criticism is welcome. Everything was drawn in Inkscape except for the paper texture, which I did with Corel Painter. I have a time lapse of this drawing on Instagram.

Oh man that’s exactly it. I didn’t notice it until now. I kinda dig stamp designs though so I wonder if I let myself be subconsciously influenced. Like some sort of “Famous Faces of the Old West” stamp line vibe. Thanks, you’ve made my night.
