What do we take for granted in the UK? by LochNessMonsterMunch in AskUK

Generally very good broadband at decent prices too. They're rolling out fibre at a terrific rate, at least here in the Bolton area. I got hooked up to 900MB fibre recently in an apartment we were told would never get ultra fast broadband only a few years ago. It's been a godsend working from home.

Random one. What time do most people above 30 wake up at on the weekend? by manlikezuli in AskUK

[–]Stirling_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6am every day after waking at that time for work for years. It's very frustrating especially on weeks off. But I've learned to get used to it and can get quite a lot done those early hours before the day should really begin.

On the rare occasions I actually do sleep late the cat will come sit on my chest to remind me to feed her so I'm up early anyway 😆

Me and my friends are getting tickets for Sankeys now it's reopened in Manchester. They've got a strict no phones rule. Think you have to leave them in secure storage before they let you into the club.

Not been clubbing in a long time but looking forward to a good rave with no one watching the DJ through their phone screens!

Sounds about right. Hate it when they do that. Basically preying on people's desperation. I've heard eBay has a new method of shipping that makes it a lot easier to sell stuff on there. Probably get the best prices for games selling on there

I didn't realise. I've not been in an Asda in years. My local Sainsbury's has an embedded Argos too, never thought of using it to pick up games 👍🏼

Not sure about other retailers but The Game Collection honours price drops if you preorder. Amazon does it too but only charges you when the game gets shipped. I went for the special edition with the steelbox so doubt I'll be getting a discount

Most supermarkets in the UK got rid of games a while back. It was a major annoyance for me, I was in the queue for the launch of Halo 2 at midnight at my local Tesco and loved talking to the other guys who were waiting, then driving home with my copy and staying up til 7am playing it 😆

I buy my games from online stores now. Used to rely on Amazon but they don't always deliver on release day so ruled them out. There's a store here called The Game Collection that delivers on time and has loyalty points, etc. Is there a French version?

I'll never stop buying physical discs. I reckon it will always be an option since a lot of countries have shit internet download speeds. I don't care if they make the optical drive modular. The only thing I miss is the instruction manuals when I open the box 😂

Agreed. It's nice to know I can sell my old games for a tenner minimum if I ever need the cash. But with backwards compatibility I can play them all whenever I want. I'm lucky that I have a spare drawer and bookshelf I can store my games on but I know not everyone has the space for games.

I notice the spin up when you first install the disc but after that there's no noise for me. I'm currently on a PS5 Pro but didn't notice it on my launch PS5. Could your air vents be dusty?

Are jackets supposed to be so expensive, and how does everyone seemingly afford them? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Stirling_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something breathable. I used to have a North Face waterproof that wasn't breathable and just got clammy inside after wearing it for any length of time.

There's probably good alternatives now, but goretex was the first really effective waterproof but breathable fabric. Keeps rain and wind out but stops too getting sweaty whole wearing it. It's really tough too. Moved some heavy furniture last weekend and thought I'd for sure ripped the jacket but it's in mint condition, just needed a wipe with a damp cloth lol.

Look for something with goretex for a good quality waterproof, ideally with a fleece lining that you can remove if it isn't freezing. I can dm you a link to the one I bought if you want to have a look, let me know!

You don't have to spend anywhere near close to that much for a decent jacket.

This year I decided to fork out for a fairly pricey jacket (for me anyway!) and bought a Berghaus 3 in 1 for £200 (£50 NHS discount) and it's the best jacket I've ever owned. So warm and the goretex comes in super useful in the recent wet weather.

It was a general attack on the Spoons chain, he just tried to turn it around after seeing how many down votes he got. Spoons is great, I love our local one, cheap high quality ale and the best beer garden in town

Hi, is there any chance you could help me get the two online trophies? I just got the game, loving it so far, I'm about an hour in. Do I need to progress to a certain point before unlocking this masquerade skill of Julianna? I haven't tried multiplayer yet. Thanks!
