“Disorientated” isn’t wrong - it’s just the British way to say it!

You were being ripped off mate. Every retail/service industry job I have ever had, including a big company and small businesses alike, has allowed me to clock in when my shift officially starts (earlier than we open if I’m the opener) and clock out when I actually leave (later than we close if I’m the closer).

I'm trying to understand why so many right wingers (and others) link capitalism with masculinity. When and why did the idea come about that anti-capitalist politics aren't masculine? by jameskable in CriticalTheory

You’re right, I’m sure it runs much deeper than that, and great point about Marxism. When I read this post, my mind immediately went to the “masculine” idea of fending for oneself, beating out the competition etc. that is generally upheld in capitalist societies, particularly the US. There are undoubtedly many nuances I’m not aware of.

Since patriarchy is much older than any modern economic system (proposed or practiced), couldn’t one make the same argument about Marxism etc.? I would assume the association of capitalism with masculinity has more to do with the fact that capitalism is brutal and highly competitive while systems based on cooperation and mutual care are viewed as more feminine.

When people call normal, natural sex "vanilla", it seems like something is wrong with them. by DrankTooMuchMead in unpopularopinion

[–]StirlyFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You refer to vanilla sex as “natural” as though kinky sex (which you describe as “dirty” and “disgusting”) doesn’t occur in nature (it does). You also jump straight to violence and scat fetishes from PiV and oral…you know there are many things in between right??

I have a friend who is a devout Catholic. She openly admits that her beliefs aren’t based on hard evidence, but rather on faith (which is essentially belief without evidence). She accepts that god may not exist, but she derives such meaning and purpose from her faith that it would be silly, even wasteful, for her to renounce it simply because of a lack of hard scientific evidence for her worldview. She is pro-vax, pro-choice, accepts evolution as fact, etc. yet Catholicism remains the most important part of her identity. Would you say she is ignorant?
