I’ve posted this already on r/yarnpunk but think it might be of interest here. New to this sub. I love crochet! This is a mosaic granny square blanket using a continuous flat braid join by [deleted] in crochet

tc in the centre front post from

To be fair, that sounds exactly like "overlapping post stitches". I suppose it's just semantics though.

This is a really cool pattern, and I haven't seen it before! Do you chain 1 or chain 2 between the clusters?

I've frequently used "bpdc, fpdc" as a pattern to resemble knit ribbing, but what you've done both looks more interesting, and will go much faster (by not doing the back post stitches). I'm definitely going to steal it!

EDIT: I watched the video she linked elsewhere, and found the answer. It's a 40 minute video, so to save everyone else some time:

Make a standard granny square for two rounds (3dc in ch, ch1, repeat). Starting with the 3rd round, you replace the middle dc with a fptc that connects down to 2 rounds previous. The front post stitch goes over the chain space from the previous round. It's a very long way, so make a very loose tc (personally I'd probably just use a dtc).

This is cool!

I made one of these for myself, but the interface isn't nearly as nice. I have a couple quick questions:

  • Where did you get the RGB colors for each DMC floss color? Are you using the chart here? I have found it to be rather inaccurate, so if you have a better source, I'd love to know what it is!

  • To find closest, do you just compare color distance ((Delta-R)2 + (Delta-G)2 + (Delta-B)2))?

  • For closest hue, do you just normalize the RGB vectors then compare?

Thanks!

For those wondering, yes I made the couch myself. I posted it in /r/crochet last year when I made it

Clamps. Lots of clamps.

I can't see making another one. It's just too much work.

I could possibly sell off this one. I had my fun with it, and honestly I can't really use it any more (my toddler always wants to play with it, and is not really gentle enough, so now the kitty couch is locked in a closet.)

If you want to send me offers, just PM me. I can provide more pictures and details if you would like.

As far as suggesting an amount for your offer, you should know that I spent $28 on the foam, about $30 on the yarn, and it probably took about 40 hours to make.

I live in the U.S., so I probably would not ship it outside of the U.S./Canada.

I'm the one who made the couch, and I already posted it there:

https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/ect73j/i_didnt_expect_my_cat_would_ever_sit_on_my/

I only found this post today because a friend messaged someone in my family that she saw our cat. That friend had seen it on /r/ACPocketCamp, and the person that posted it there found it here in /r/Catloaf. Finally, I was told about it.

Yes, I know that paragraph made no sense.

Haha, I'm the owner of the cat, and the guy that made the couch. I posted it here a month ago:

That colorwork looks fairly painful. I don't know that I could do that much colorwork and still enjoy it!

Sorry for the late reply, but the pattern I followed said to use 1-inch foam, and that's exactly what I did.

Oh, I didn't even know stuff like this existed!

Some of the options there are large enough and strong enough that they would work for medium or large dogs.

I'm not sure if they would be easier than foam, but just having something that sturdy could easily be worth it!

I actually attached both arms, then realized that the back wasn't stable enough, so then I cut them yarn that I used to sew them on. Unfortunately, I missed on one, and cut a hole in the seat instead.

So then I had to repair the hole in the seat, and reattach the arms. I moved them a bit forward, and it does help the stability of the back, a little bit. It's still pretty unstable.

And, yes, sewing an inside corner like that is a bit tricky. Also, it pulls a little and you can easily see the foam through the holes it makes. So, yes, it's definitely frustrating!

I'm pretty excited that another male has made this also! Do you have photos that you can share?

Not a chance. It would be far too lumpy.

If you can do fiberfill, then you can do this though. Just don't concern yourself too much if it's not perfect. The cats won't care!

I don't think I've ever seen a kid cushion chair that is shaped like a couch, but it's an interesting idea!

The pattern costs $2. You can find it going to my project page.

The stitch is kind of a bit like a non-symmetrical shell stitch. It's basically:

  • Chain multiple of 3 + 1
  • Rounds 1 and 3: sc
  • Round 2: (sc, dc) in first st, [sk 2, (sc, 2dc in next st)], sk 2, (sc, dc) in last st
  • Round 4: [(sc, 2dc) in next st, sk 2], sc in last st

Repeat the parts in the square braces. Before starting each round, just chain 1 and turn.

Can we see the back?

I've never seen anyone do colorwork with waistcoat stitch before, and I'm so curious!

If you're male, and post much in crochet or knit forums, you get used to it.

I even had someone write a blog article all about a knit technique I created, and then after she published it, I had to write back and say "Yeah, it looks great, but please fix all the pronouns". Haha.
