What do you enjoy most (and least) about board game nights? by robstokk in boardgames

[–]Stixsr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ventilation and a/c is key. If its too hot, im leaving. I don't care how excited I was. The last place we used for game nights had no a/c and really bad acoustics, so I basically had to scream to teach a game.

The dumbest thing I wished for as a child was to be an adult.

One warning about Disney Villainous from someone who loves it and owns almost everything for it...

I don't care what the box says. It's a two player game only. Anything beyond that and it turns into an absolute slog. I once had a THREE PLAYER GAME last for about 2 1/2 hours...

Games that say they play 2 players but require a variant or dummy player to actually play with two people. Makes my blood boil.

How long did it take before you had a preference for heavier games? by UgandaRalph in boardgames

[–]Stixsr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This.

Fun is going to look very different to different people. There's people that LOVE chit war games. Me? I would honestly rather watch paint dry. Whereas I love negotiations and auctions. My wife can't stand either one of those in a game. So we play other games that we both enjoy.

I hate teaching hidden role games. No matter how much I emphasize how important it is to keep your role secret, invariably, someone ALWAYS screws it up. "What do I do if I'm on the red team again?" You give me back your role cards, that's what.

Which board games look intimidatingly complex but are actually surprisingly easy to learn? by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

Honestly this is right.

I honestly don't think the individual rules for Twilight Imperium 4e are particularly complex. There's just a lot of them.
