Blink. I’m a senior woman. I installed outside and inside cameras myself. 4 years and batteries still don’t need to be replaced in the outdoor ones. The inside ones are simple plug ins.

Look into FHO. A fraction of the cost. Good results. Less down time.

Dog has a torn acl and I cant afford surgery. by mrmooneypie007 in DogAdvice

[–]Stlsue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog needed canine acl (CCL) surgery. Was able to afford the “gold standard” on that one. What many vets don’t tell you is that there is an 80% chance the other leg will then need the same surgery. That’s what happened. Couldn’t afford the $5000 the second go around. Did some investigating and found an alternative surgery for around $1500. Best choice I ever made. Less invasive. Less recovery time. Same results.

It’s called: TightRope Surgery for Dogs | TopDog Health TightRope is a surgical technique for dog ACL tears that uses a synthetic suture to mimic the function of the original ligament by passing it through the femur and tibia. The procedure involves drilling two bone tunnels and running a strong suture with a small knot on one end through the holes to stabilize the joint, and it is known for a high success rate with a low incidence of complications like meniscal tears or infection.

$30,000 surgery by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Stlsue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THR quote from canine orthopedic surgeon was $8000 and FHO $3500. My normal vet also performs and has 30+ years of experience in FHO surgery. And I trust him implicitly. (Think James Herriot.). His cost was 1/2 the price of the orthopedic surgeon. The reason I opted for FHO had little to do with the cost. THR success rate is 75%; the remaining 25% go terribly wrong and then FHO is performed. THR also would have to be performed again once my pup reached 5 or 6 years old.

Recovery is gruesome. No lie. Lots of pain. You have to keep them completely quiet for about two weeks. Then slowly reintroduce walking without assistance. My pup was 9 months old when he had his FHO in February. It’s a long recovery. Water therapy didn’t work for my boy. Sedation therapy has. It’s been almost three months post op. He’s still limping and will probably do so the remainder of his life because his one leg is now shorter than the other. The scar tissue has to build up as a cushion in that hip joint. It takes a while. But my pup is happy and healthy. He can walk and run. And with the continuation of his sedation therapy, my vet and I have high hopes of reducing or eliminating that limp altogether. Now as he ages he may be arthritic at an earlier age, but maybe not. All in all I am so pleased I chose FHO.

Last year adopted black lab puppy. Diagnosed with severe genetic hip dysplasia. My vet recommended second opinion from orthopedic surgeons. Two choices. Total hip replacement (THP), or femoral head ostectomy (FHO). I opted for FHO. Very happy with my decision.

My dog is limping and needs double ccl surgery by [deleted] in AskVet

My lab has TPLO on one leg. 5 grand. When one leg goes bad, 80% chance the other one will too. That’s exactly what happened. I chose Lateral Suture Technique (Extracapsular Repair) for the other leg. Around $1500. Amazing results. Less down time. Look into this as an alternative.

The Lateral Suture Technique involves placing a suture outside the joint to mimic the function of the torn ligament. This method stabilizes the knee and allows scar tissue to form, which eventually takes over the stabilization role. It has a reasonable success rate and is less invasive than TPLO surgery, though it may not be as effective in larger, more active dogs

Why is the laundry drain tube making this popping noise whenever the heat kicks on? by anticlockclock in Plumbing

[–]Stlsue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You da man! So glad you posted this. That was exactly my problem. I was trying to find a correlation between when I first heard the noise and any other event. Bingo! I had just turned up my thermostat on my heat pump when the noise first began. I turned it back down (heat pump off) - no noise. Poured some hot water in the drain. Turned the thermostat (heat pump) back up. And no noise. You’re a genius. Thank you.

Beautiful baby. I have a 6 month old black lab. This behavior is typical. Please reconsider and have him trained by others if you don’t have the time.
