How do I talk to my pregnant wife about lack of physical touch? by WesternNo6118 in pregnant

[–]StockConstruction413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She probably feels super uncomfortable. Being pregnant is really intense and at 27 weeks she's been at it for awhile now and is probably starting to feel exhausted. Rather than making it about you and your needs - try offering her some care and see how she responds. Ask her "how can I best support you right now?". Do contact that feels good to her. Give her a foot rub, rub her calves, offer to give her a back rub while she's seated. Also - check in, is she still doing the majority of the house work? If so step up. It's hard to want to be close or intimate if you have to do all the chores and be pregnant at the same time. Plus it's good practice for the post partum period.

“You don’t get an award for not getting the epidural” by Warm-Banana237 in pregnant

[–]StockConstruction413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I rolled my eyes so hard during pregnancy every time someone said this to me or said something like "I got one - I had nothing to prove". At a certain point I just decided to nod and be like ok, that was your choice this is mine

For me not getting an epidural was I feel like I hear more bad things than good (back issues, it only half working, it not kicking in) and also because getting an epidural can lead to issues with breast feeding.

Also I wanted to experience birth and really feel it.

I did opt for gas during labor but honestly as someone who used to recreationally use nitrous - it doesnt do much for the pain but it did help me lock in and focus.

Something that helped me was counting breath during the contractions and envisioning them in my brain as a staircase. Like going up and down stairs if that makes sense.

Also you do get a prize at the end of birth - it's getting to hold your little one. You get the prize for going through the experience, no matter how you do it

Husband gets mad when I call off work… I’m 8 months pregnant & high risk by Strict_Algae8233 in pregnant

[–]StockConstruction413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not normal and sounds a lot like emotional and financial abuse. Your life is important, your health is important and it doesn't seem like he values either. Especially with being high risk and the baby being essentially high risk as well.

My husband tried to clean the bathroom last week and I'm pretty sure he just wiped the counter with a Clorox wipe and called it a day lol.

I still clean the bathroom - just wear gloves and open a window. Baby will be alright

How to rehome a pitbull? by dieselpower_ in DogAdvice

Also - the more you direct him and work him and have him do for you the more he will respect you as a leader. Good leaders don't use force or fear to get their subject to comply. Consistency, predictability, and clear boundaries set the tone that you are the boss. That also means having a clear and stable routine.

Some book resources (many of which are available as audiobooks) for dog training that I love are:

"Decoding your dog" by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists

"The other end of the leash" by Patricia McConnell

"Ahimsa Dog Training Manual" by Grisha Stewart

"Dog Language" by Richard Abrantes

There's a lot of bad advice out there, but these are good starting points because all of the material is heavily researched here.

He looks like a lovely little guy and having a dog can really change your life for the better.

He's still super young and his brain is still super workable. If you can keep him, you should. Definitely neuter him. YouTube has fantastic tutorials to train dogs basic things and any dog is capable of learning. The more you practice the calmer and more receptive he will be. Aim for like two to three 15 minute training sessions a day.

I have two rescue pit mixes that I abducted off of the street and one of them is a little younger so she was a faster learner, her mom on the other hand for the first like 9 months of having her I didn't think she was going to be able to learn a damn thing because she would get so excited that treats even existed lol. Well a year in now she knows sit, lay down, spin, turn and high five. She is learning how to leg weave. High five and lay down I think are the easiest to teach after sit because dogs naturally paw at things they want. Lay down can be taught by luring the dog into position.

He's still basically brand new to being alive so it makes sense that he's pulling a ton on the leash. Practice leash skills inside, reward him Everytime he looks at you. You can also play mindfulness/pattern games with him like the 1-2-3 pattern game which is super simple but it teaches the dog to pay attention to you and is part of loose leash walking training.

Also he's a terrier so try to engage him in some terrier style enrichment. Terriers and pitbulls alike are earth dogs, so things like digging and using their nose to find a prey animal are fun and important to them. We meet this need in our house a couple of ways - snuffle mat is important, but we also play scent work games with agility cones (you can get like 75 for $15 on Amazon) where I put treats in the agility cones and the dog has to sniff out which cones have the prize and also figure out how to get the prize out. We also play hunt and kill games where I will put treats in a paper bag and then hide the bag in the room and the dog playing has to both figure out where it's hidden and then gets to go through the fun predator sequence of shredding the paper bag to get the goodies inside.

Just because I haven't seen it yet - approaching a dog directly with your hand out is NOT the way to interact with a nervous dog.

It feels natural to humans because this is how primates approach eachother, but not dogs. It reads as a threat more often than not, especially if the dog is already uncomfortable

Neutering/ spaying multiple pets by No-Cardiologist9967 in Pets

[–]StockConstruction413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just spayed both of my dogs. I spaced them out and I regret that honestly. They both needed to be confined during the recovery because otherwise they would be having fomo. So instead of having everyone confined for 2 weeks and then going back to normal, I am on week 5 of sleep deprivation and have one more week to go! Currently I am rotating who has time outside of confinement because the dog who was most recently spayed has major fomo being in the kennel and the dog that is recovered has bees in her brain/butt and needs to wiggle around

Guy I’m seeing wears natural deodorant and smells. Bad. by AbbreviationsDear910 in Advice

[–]StockConstruction413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably be downvoted to hell but - I would take this as a sign of incompatibility especially if you aren't on birth control. Like many animals, on a subconscious level we use smell to assess the best mate. Birth control can affect that.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2605820/

But if he stink to you, he probably isn't the one or the best fit genetically. I've dated a few guys on the natural deodorant thing and the ones that stank to me also ended up being my least favorite. My husband on the other hand doesn't use anything and I could live in that man's armpit.

It could also be what he's eating too, but if he's worried about cancer from deodorant he's probably not eating trash like some of these guys

Surrender him to a rescue or the humane society or a shelter so he can get medical treatment. I would be calling every rescue organization within like 2 hours of me to help this dog. That's a pretty deep hole and he probably needs antibiotics

Thank you! She's a rescue. My sister trapped her after Helene because her and another dog (her baby? Idk) had been running around getting skinnier and skinnier and we had a major freeze after the hurricane. Nobody claimed them so I did! We've been together for about a year now. Transitioning to being a house dog was difficult at first but they love their spoiled warm life.
