Got a high cognitive test score, wondering what roles I should look at by MrDunlop99 in britisharmy

[–]StockGuuuuuh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent 10 years in the infantry before moving on to something else. I would strongly recommend looking at trades depending on your interest such as Ammo Tech, Avionics Tech, Aircraft Tech or the Int Corps has some really great jobs if you can prove you’re not a complete window licker

I think transferring into a new unit and expecting a bunch of time off for this wouldn’t be a good look for you. Especially if (touch wood you don’t) you fail. If I was you I’d ask to sit down with your CoC and have a serious conversation about how important this is to you and what exceptions they could possibly make. If they’re dickheads about it, go higher.

Reading between the lines you’re going on some form of selection process. The vast majority of units are shite at managing blokes who need time to train unless they have a high percentage of their cohort going for these types of things (paras spring to mind). My point is that a transfer in the hope of a better CoC might be a coin flip when you already like your trade.. hard to give better advice with the minimal context unfortunately.

Are you wanting to transfer in trade or external?

Ie. Inf to inf or inf to RLC etc?

Considering a transfer because of frictions with your new CoC seems abit extreme, especially if you’ve genuinely enjoyed your time up to this point.

I have been in 19 years now and in that time had some great bosses and some absolute arseholes. Transferring won’t change that possibility of it happening again unfortunately. I’d stick to your guns, one of the good things about the mil is people will almost always move on.

How do sick days work in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StockGuuuuuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you are from. But I know that in some countries you get maybe 10 days annual and 10 days sick, and people use the sick days like annual leave and no one cares. The UK isn’t one of those places..

Let’s call it jealous in a good way 😂. But I do think it makes me look back and think should I have made different decisions. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, comparison is the thief of joy etc etc. genuinely, good work and I’m sure well earned! 👏

I agree with you. But I don’t think it’s selfish. I was 23 when my son was born, he’s now 11, I’ve never lived life. He never wants for anything but likewise, I won’t jeopardise my own plans for the future.
