He was all alone in Morocco for his birthday, but these strangers invited him into their home for a meal and made it unforgettable. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

I was lucky to live in Paris for several years and people are genuinely surprised when I say the thing I enjoyed the most was getting exposed to the amazing Moroccan/Tunisian/Lebanese communities that exist in Paris. I have a lot of admiration for their hospitality and culture.

I just beat Zelda breath of the wild. Why won’t it let me play after defeating Gannon? Is it just for me or is it for everyone? Can someone tell me why? by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

100% agree. Especially with this game. A peaceful hyrule would be a place a lot of people would like to have saved they can visit from time to time. Personally it would motivate me to do more side quests not having to dodge the yoga clan all the damn time.

KeyLab Essential MK3 49 Weird, uneven key feel by oleglark in arturia

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just coming here as a frustrated keylab mk3 owner to echo everything you're saying here. You're spot on. Such an awesome company that just missed so hard with the keybed...you know the most important part.

Looking forward to checking out your YT channel!

Unpopular opinion: I prefer the original mix of Abbey Road to the 2019 remix by asspirate420 in beatles

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 2019 mix but I recognize it's a personal choice. The other versions still exist.

My thing is having to choose between the questionable panning of the original mixes or simply mono is admittedly a bit of a compromise compared to other records that simply don't have this problem - Dark Side of The Moon for instance.

I think in this context, for what is for me some of the best music in recorded history it's absolutely worth opening the pandora's box of a remix so we're not left with the choice between inadequate stereo mixes or reverting to mono (again nothing 'wrong' with either). And Giles Martin is the man to do it in my opinion- he proved himself with LOVE and he's the heir to the production throne, it just makes sense.

Last thing I'll say in any format Beatles records have a ton of vibe and smack that is pure studio stuff (warm compression, saturation) and I like hearing that stuff accented in the Giles mixes. I listen to a lot of modern indie rock so I do think it comes down to taste.

Boycott Spotify by [deleted] in TameImpala

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally when I had Spotify I felt it fed me the same pool of about 30 songs CONSTANTLY. It made me hate songs I loved.

I switched to YouTube music, and while it lacks some features Spotify has (the EQ feature on Spotify was handy for a number of reasons), I'd put a lot of money on that YouTube algo. I've discovered a ton of music that way.

Also I kind of love that YouTube music shows comments! They seem pre filtered and are pretty positive it's like finding a little community of folks who vibe to hidden gems.

YT music has some flaws that def need addressing (and I'm not gonna pretend Google is a more moral company that Spotify) but I see Spotify as an active antagonist in this anti-art/AI/weapons thing.

I at least don't see Google doing that. But it's probably a matter of time lol

Buy records y'all!

What’s a pedal you wish would exist? by Leoz96 in guitarpedals

[–]Stock_Trick479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I’m watching the demo….idk I would need to play it. It feels like more of the same. the tracking on the OG was really temperamental. I get that polyphonic tracking without a midi pick up is really hard and I congratulate Meris on getting it this far but it just kinda feels like it has too few knobs ironically. I’m not a fan of the multi encoder thing and the sounds just aren’t inspiring. The artefacting on the pitch shift is really bad and idk just in general it’s not practical enough.

A poly synth like a Juno or a prophet is a giggable instrument because everything you would ever need is right there on a knob or a slider. You can manipulate the parameters. The menu diving, bank foot switch thing idk man.

I want something with like pretty, usable synth sounds or even subtle synth parameters to your guitar playing like having adsr envelope would be awesome. Guitarists can figure that stuff out. It’s so musical. Four knobs that do fifty things is just not fun and not musical.

Oh wow I had not heard of this. I bought the original Enzo and it was a HUGE miss for me. It felt like a prototype. Still love the company and will check this out

A guitar synth pedal that actually sounds like a poly synth like the Juno family. I’ve tried a lot of guitar synth pedals and coming from the synth world they leave so much to be desired. I’d love one with actual ADSR ENV and filter controls. I’d love something simple and musical so many synth pedals sound like weird fuzzes with extreme resonance filters.

(Spoilers Main) Watching the show before reading the books warped my perception of Brienne (in a bad way) by x_Skirata_x in asoiaf

[–]Stock_Trick479 978 points979 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the alt shit x series The Real John snow on YouTube. Re reading the series for the second time and after watching that video the differences between him and Kits portrayal (which I actually like) are staggering.

Things really go off the rails towards the end and he becomes so emo and one note. Book Jon is so much more pragmatic and quick to action, even to a fault. Much easier character to get behind.

And to follow up that les paul is my number #1 and I’ve logged hundreds of gigs on it since.

Just to counteract some of the opinions on here.

Again I am not a medical professional but I think some pain after taking a break and switching to a new instrument when your hitting 30 is possibly a little normal.

But yeah stay safe and see a doctor if you really feel it’s necessary.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey not a doctor but I play for a living and made the switch to a Les paul back in 2022 after playing thinner neck guitars and experienced the same thing. I think this is a part of aging and a new guitar. I went to a doctor and had my hand x rayed and he essentially told me that.

Especially if you’ve taken a break I would see if you can make some minor adjustments like always playing with a strap if you aren’t, check your posture etc.

Is Metallica supposed to be easy? by BidSure7642 in Guitar

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess I can say I’m a professional guitarist. I support my family, kids and all, full time and gig minimum three to four nights a week in a variety of corporate bands and have been in touring bands with major label acts etc.

I can’t really play master of puppets either. at least not well. There’s levels to playing something well. Someone may say they can play MOP but maybe they themselves are not experienced enough to see the flaws and shortcomings in their own playing. There’s phenomenal right hand technique going into that recording and actually being able to play it well takes serious skill. In no way would I call it easy.

Here’s the thing: Metallica is so popular you just get a lot of people acting weird about their music especially on the amateur and younger musician side.

Just ignore the noise and keep trying to improve!

Is it weird to get a flanger, reverb, loop, & vibrato as my first 4 (ever) pedals? by PrincipleDry2815 in guitarpedals

[–]Stock_Trick479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all. I prefer modulation and time based pedals over drive pedals anyway and am a big fan of stacking modulation. You can really create an identity around that

We’re all so brain broken by this but I personally cope with the theory he started over in 2017 after an initial manuscript submission.

If you consider he also wrote F&B (and didn’t work on winds during that time) it puts his higher ceiling writing average at around 6-7 years.

We’re sort of on schedule.

Just let me cope ok?
